What, sadly, impresses me most is the disparity in media coverage when contrasted against the death of Michael Jackson.
I liked much of Michael Jackson's music and consisidered him a great performer despite all the allegations of his personal weirdness.
That being said, the day after Jackson's death the local newspaper ran a front page totally devoted to Jackson's death with a huge image of MJ. It consumed the entire front page.
Conkrite, in contrast, got a little front page space below an obviously canned weekend story about local home sales. Yeah, Jackson dying was a big story. But Conkrite's death was, in my mind, the passing of an era and a cultural icon vastly greater than that of Michael Jackson. Such are the values of today.
