DD great idea especially for new squads and new CIC's to the game.  

Good examples are one thing and there are plenty of replies from the guys above that have published some really good Op Orders in the past.  I'll send a couple of mine to you as well.  

I recommend a "sample" fill in the blank Op Order or perhaps just a fill in the blank "Task Org.".  This would provide a basic level for a new guy to meet avoiding 45 page Op Orders and 48 hours of work, but also helping to avoid the Op Orders who's plan starts with "Get'em boys", get published Thursday night at midnight and lack the critical information required to coordinate multi-squad operations.

The graphics the the most important part of the Op Order however.  A really good set of operational graphics saves a lot of writing and questions from the peanut gallery.  For this a sample graphics sheet would be a good idea with a "check sheet" on what basic information a graphics sheet should have.  And quick "How do I make these" using MS Paint.

A good Graphics sheet and a Good Task Org list are all you really need in a pinch and would serve as a "base" standard.

In short FSO Op Orders 101.

Also this would probably initiate a basic standard or format to the FSO Op Orders across the board.  Which won't be a bad idea either.

The next frame I did something similar but only for
my squadron.  I use various flavors of this format
for UK and JP based missions as well.  I figure the
extra effort helps players "Get In The Mood". 

Were I to do FSO again for the LCAAF (I'll fly the
Space Shuttle before THAT happens!) I would write
these up again but I would also create a video briefing
for participating squadron commanders for immersion
sake...if I could get the materials I needed in time....
and that is the biggest issue with being CiC.

I may do something like that for one of my Missions-of-the-Month
though just to see how it turns out.

Anyway, with respect to being FSO CiC, by far the biggest headache
with creating orders is getting decent maps that you can annotate
and edit as needed for your missions.  I have asked that these maps
be gathered together in one place so both squadron C.O.'s and CiC's
can have quick acces to them but to my knowledge this has yet to be
done.

That, and not getting the campaign orders on a timely basis
is one of the reasons I hung up my CiC hat way back when.
I got tired of trying to pull the rabbit out of my hat at the
last minute.

Here's something else that might help future
armchair generals of the sky!

One of the difficulties of being CiC is the task of organizing
your assets so you can readily grasp what resources you have
to work with.  Once you can accomplish that, assigning your
forces and composing a cogent battle plan becomes
far easier.

To make aggregating this data less troublesome I created a
worksheet that allows me to get a clearer picture of what I have
at my disposal and how best to utilize these forces to accomplish
the mission.  Using this document alongside the map of
the scenario makes doing this a snap. You can download it here:

After working out the details using this form I can
very easily compose a nifty set of orders for the country
I am commanding.  I hope all CiC's find it as useful.   

Finally, I publish the orders as a pdf document and send them
via email to my squadron commanders.  I use pdf files so
that the document displays the same on everyone's computer
and to make forwarding it to their pilots easier.  If you don't
