Any of you fellas good with cars?
« on: July 27, 2009, 07:50:19 PM »
Okay, so, today, it seems the motor or whatever rolls the window down on my Mustang has broken.

We've pretty much got it all down, but we can't seem to find how to get the door panel off to access the motor to test it and what not.

Do any of you know a website (or just know personally) how to take the door panel of a 2001 Ford Mustang off to get inside the door itself?

Removal

All vehicles

   1. CAUTION: Use a shop towel or similar material between the tool and the front door trim panel or damage to the front door trim panel may occur. Position the window regulator switch plate (14527) aside.

   1. Pull at the service notch.
   2. Lift to release the clip at the rear edge.

this references removing the window switch plate. the service notch is to the left of the lock button.

   2. Remove the window regulator switch plate.

   1. Disconnect the power mirror electrical connector.
   2. Remove the screws and the window regulator switch plate.
both of these connectors are the ones on the switch plate you just removed.

   3. Remove the door latch release handle cup (22634).
these usually just pop out, but check it carefully. some need to be slid forward or backward...i don't remember on this car.

   4. Remove the cover. Vehicles with Mach 460 Premium Sound System
this is in the upper front corner of the door......just inside of the mirror. there'll be a speaker there if you have the good sound system.

   5. Remove the screw and the speaker.

          o Disconnect the electrical connector.

All vehicles

   6. Remove the screws.these, there'll be at least 2 down along the lower edge. there may be a couple up behind the speaker. there also may be one or two behind where you removed the switch plate, or near the door pull. ford tends to put them in weird places.

   7. Remove the door trim panel (23942).

   1. Remove the pin-type retainer.
   2. Lift up the door trim panel to remove.

Installation

   1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Thanks, helps a lot.

We found out the problem, somehow, the motor gave way (and I thought that had happened) and it lost all ability to hold the window up, so, the window pretty much I guess "crashed down" (with no damage to the window) and pinned it at the bottom of the car. It's beyond me how this happened, but luckily, it's a cheap fix compared to what could have happened.

usually when the motor goes bad, it simply won't move the window. if it allowed the window to drop, then the worm gear in the motor failed. some napa stores will sell you the gear kit, although since you need to remove the motor to replace that, you're better off to spend a couple extra bucks and replace the entire motor.

if it's not in the motor, then the regulator may have failed too.

If the window just falls down then I would bet the regulator is toast. Might as well replace it when you do the motor, as well as the door lock solenoid.
