Guess I'll join the club. I can get in the arena, and all looks fine for ten seconds; then whammo... black screen, can't even alt-F4 or
do the three-finger-salute. I'm thinking this old rig has finally hit the end of the line.

I get nothing once I join the arena.  In fact, even my monitor turns itself off.  The green "on" lite turns to yellow.  Weird

That sounds like the monitor is loosing the signal from the computer. Maybe your video card is crashing? Are all of your fans running? The new graphics might be pushing it over the edge. What card do you have?

Check to see what resolution the game set itself for. It will automatically go to the highest resolution your card can handle but it may be too much.

its a Radeon 9200.   Chitty thing is that to make it work I've always had to go back to an older version of the drivers.   But I did update to the newest drivers.  it fixed my black screeen BS.  But it went back to the problems of going to the old drivers in the first place... which is black radar circles etc.
