By MIL power /mph:

Test was made by following procedure (I found this method when browsing old posts, it is more accurate than trying to read gauges)
- fuelburnrate 0.00
- alt: 50-80ft
- 25% fuel
- default guns, no dt's/bombs
- hit trim on level flight
- after 2 minutes estimate speed and input it to ".speed xxx" and hit speed trim. If climb needle starts to go up or down, immediatly hit level trim and adjust trim on speed accordingly until climb needle is steady.
- After found correct speed, wait 30 sec and input it again ".speed xxx" and notify climb needle
- Same thing with wep

I made a double check with P-47D-25 which is slow accelerator and let it run on level trim 10 minutes, result was same as measured by above test.

I was surprised that from P-47 -family, D-11 was fastest at the deck and there were no difference between D-25 and D-30:
D-11 : 333/344
D-25 : 329/340
D-30 : 329/340

I'm going to run this test at 10k and 20k. As speed trim is using IAS, is there a formula or a table for converting IAS to TAS?

yes small perk value could stop some idiots in la7 whitch fly from HO to HO and then HO and do not care about 4 on their tail whitch will got them soon.

Tac`s table is good, may be tempest about 30 instead of 20

N1k and low eny is quite ok its very good turner, have plenty of ammo, its late war airplane.

I do not think that perk planes like F4U-4, Tempest need so low ENY.

Orel, the guys you are running into flying the La7 will simply HO with whatever plane they end up with. I have been flying the La7 a lot, recently, and I can tell you that HO is not a very good use of the La7.

There are a lot of guys that don't know how to do anything else. They just aim at the dot and spray-and-pray. I've noticed, too, that there are a few guys (notably RafBader has mastered this) that defend against BnZ by turning into the attacker and fighting HO. It's a viable tactic and insisting that a plane be perked because of the tactics of a few lacks in depth thought on the matter.

I have seen those same La7's try to HO me. They come headlong guns firing all the way. After three passes they are out of ammo and run home. No more threat from La7.

Heya Steven,

Yeah the F4U-1 is faster than the F4U-1D in the condition they are modeled in AH. Not that I am complaining however.

The F4U-1 was a pure fighter more or less in that it could be fitted with a center line bomb rack but was usually flown in a "clean" condition. No external hard points for carrying ordinace.

The F4U-1D while it had a more efficient prop and slightly more HP it also carried in 'Combat" condition two external pylons for carrying bombs and eight hard points on the wing for rockets. And while it could climb appreciably better due to the prop change the drag from the external items slowed it by about 5MPH. However when tested in the "clean " condition it was about 5 MPH faster than the -1.

However the clean condition for the F4U-1D is not modeled in AH. You can check the performance of exactly the two A/C we have in AH here.

Hmm?.

That doesnt look right. Wonder if AH is modelling the drag from the pylons. Also, the D-30 shoulds be a lot faster with WEP. (2600HP vs 2300HP of the D-25).
F4U, do you still have those scans of that P-47D reports (amongst others) from the Fighter Conference?.

it has some airfields in 10k, 20k and 34k - for 10k f.e. you can start in 20k and dive down to 10k, this way you reach faster your speed

I'm pretty sure I've read that the P-51B was faster than the D, due to the bubble canopy. This may also apply to the 47's.

P51B is faster than P51D. Just not at low alts, nor on the deck. But on high alts, the B is indeed faster than the D.

Both planes had more differences apart of the canopy. Wing was slighly different and engines were not rated at the same alts.

Last month I did take the F4U-1 up a few times and it *felt* to me to be slower than the F6F and I actually got run down by a Hurricane once if memory serves. I remember calling out on open-channel 'can this F4U-1 be any slower?' and things like that. I'll have to give her another try and pay more attention to that spedometer.
