For those of us that cant use the detailed terrain due to hardware issues.
It would be nice to hear that there will be an effort to make the new non detailed terrain slightly more detailed,

Oxymoron?

I've had the depth perception problem too but noticed it was not so bad on the second map I flew on.  Perhaps it is map related?

Nemisis: I do not rember how long it has been since our last graphic upgrade. This release has been a ground up write of the terrain engine and other major core changes. I doubt we will need another major change for some time.

HiTech

probably the wrong place for this.......but with re-writing the terrain......is or was there a reasonable way to make the craters from bombs, and other large ords "real"?
like......actually have craters on the runways that'll ruin your takeoff? or that could actually be hit by your gv?

just asking is all.......and BTW........ :aok :aok :aok :aok :aok :aok :aok :aok :aok :aok :aok :aok :aok :aok

the depth perception(if you're talking about the water?) isn;t in the water. it's in learning to recognize the new look.

I really hadn't noticed much difference one way or the other (ok, ground/stuff IS a bit nicer, but I don't really care about that stuff anyhow) But when the @#%%% SUN isn't burning a gdamn hole through my eyes, the water is inCREDIBLE! <S> you see individual ripples, reflections, awesome. I'm not sure why they feel the need to make every flight seem like a trek through the Sahara, the sun is low in the horizon more often than not, and inCREDIBLY bright, and when it reflects off water 1/4 the possible;e directions one might wish to look are gone in a bright nuclear-like flash

What did you just call me!? Just kidding.   :P
Its just difficult to put it all in words that make any sence, and i still failed a little.
I have found that on both maps, many of us suffer a depth perception problem. The Minimum settings are very featureless around the coast and at sea. The older terrains had more detail to give you an idea by sight and not instrument how high you roughly were.
For my PC i have to have all the eye candy off to allow a non-warpy session. I like to turn fight low and attack NOE, the new terrains have made it very very difficult to do both.
Do you really think we sit around here trying to find ways to piss off the customer base?

Well, the new TE hasn't been out a week and we're already in patch 3. I suspect there will be several more patches over the next month as issues are revealed along with repeatable descriptions of the problems. I've watched this company for a long time, and there's no one that takes better care of their customers then htc, give them a little time.

This isn't a criticism of anyone. Some of us have the time to test things in the game, and some don't but those who can't will have to wait until someone with similar hardware comes along to provide enough information to help solve the problem. The beta presented many of us the opportunity to learn something about the new game engine, and provide details on the experience and our hardware. I participated, posted dxdiag data on my rig and a description of how it was running poorly.
I don't believe it's an accident that the game is playable on my hardware. I saw fewer then 5 people in the beta last week, so I concluded that it was either working, or that the only way to gather more responses was to go live and "fix it" after the players started supplying the needed feedback in the form of dxdiag, and reproducible issue reports. It's hard for me to imagine how frustrated they must still be after the lack of participation and feed back in the beta. I see lots of threads about problems, but not to many dxdiag reports are accompanying them.
So true I never saw more than 10 people at any one time in Beta, and I would dare to say 90% of the time I was on, I was it. The new engine being worked from the ground up was long overdue. But look at a BIG company like Microsoft, they didn't get Vista right till the very end. Give HiTech time, every day I see changes that are making strides to solving the problems.
