Game stops when looking around..
« on: August 01, 2009, 08:51:15 PM »
I have a problem.

I can fly for varying lengths of time, and then the game hangs the picture freezes the engine sound continues and nothing happens.

It has been doing this off and on since I started in 2005.. that was 3 CPUs ago.  It always seems to occur right after an update for weeks then trails off.

It happens when I look in a different direction than forward.  At first I thought it was HTs way of ensuring that he can shoot someone down because people will not be checking 6 due to the possibility it happening.
Then I thought it was a sound issue, but I have set my sound accell at basic accel 1/2 slider since Sept 2005 and check that everytime it happens.  But it happens when people are talking or not but alot of the time it is when someone is talking..  There can be 20 people close by or no one and I am just being paranoid checking my rear aspect...

Dunno.. thought it was the graphics card, so I updated the Drivers.  Happened three times since then, once last night, once in the scenario today and just a few mins ago.  Wondered if it was the temp of the graphics card but my Nvidia GEForce 9800 GTX is clocking at 68 to 71 Celcius when flying.

Anyone have any ideas?

And it happened again about 15 mins ago.  I was flying with TheMaj, he was talking as we dropped on some low planes bombing our tanks and I looked right front and it froze up..

I checked the error log and I found the following..

"Unloading the performance counter strings for service WmiApRpl (WmiApRpl)
failed. The Error code is the first DWORD in Data section."

This happened twice then a message saying they loaded..

WTF is this?

That would be the "WMI Performance Reverse Adapter." A quick Google search seems to say that it's such an issue in Vista that the people who make fake links to lure you in are all over it like a donkey on a waffle.

Game Booster will disable this and many resource hogs to help in playing the game. It is one of the resources I have turned off prior to launching the game. If interested you can get this free utility at www.iobit.com. Hope this helps.

Fencer's DXDIAG states he is running WinXP Home.
Time's fun when you're having flies.

WMI is a part of both, it just fails harder in Vista. Go figure.

Yeah yet another reason I stuck with XP. Verdict for me still out for Windows 7.
