For the Computer Illiterate..

Hey it is ok to be Computer Illiterate, some of you could fix a car, A/C system, or whatever where I would be totally screwed.

Here are a few things to help you on your way to understanding how to better work with your PC.

1. NEVER just delete a program or game off your PC. There is an unistall tool, use it. If you just delete the directory you are not removing critical files and information else where that can and will effect your computer. There are files on your computer that get updated every time you add or remove software. If you do not uninstall the software then these are not updated and will cause conflicts later.

2. Never delete anything without making a backup first. If you are deleting a folder, copy it under a different name first, save it in a place you designate for backups until you are sure you no longer need it.

3. Keep your computer case clean, if you have not opened the side of the PC in 3 years its time to clean your computer. Like every thing else it needs to be clean. Computers use and suffer from heat. Overheated computers can easily cause issues and even destroy your computer or powersupply. Compressed air from a compressor is fine, however be sure to drain any water from the system and allow the compressed air to blow for at least 10sec prior to blowing out the case.

4. Keep your computer updated. Update your video, sound, and motherboard divers at least every 6 months. Understand that at times a new driver can work worse then your old one, but normally it will improve your game play. ALWAYS unistall the old driver before updating it. If the new driver does not work, then revert to the most recent driver behind it. So on till you get exactly what you want out of your PC.

5. Limit the security software you run. Never run 2 anti-virus programs together. Not only are Anti-virus programs resource hogs, but they do not like eachother. They will fight eachother and your PC will suffer dramatic performance loss because of it. If your are running McA and Norton, I would suggest that once your yearly subscription is over, go Download AVG or Kespersky. They are just as powerful but more along the lines of what a home PC needs as they take up little resources compared to Norton or McA. Unless you are dong some seriously business orientated things on your PC, there is no need for Internet Security Suites on a Home PC. IN truth many of the programs that prevent popups and ad-ware are the same people that created the popups and ad-ware in the first place. AVG/Kespersky and Google Pop-up blocker will protect your computer from 95% of the problems you could ever find on the net. Those other 5% are on sites that.. well let's just say you took that risk when you went there drooling.
