From what I remember, they changed the default installation to something other than C:\programfiles to save the headaches. I believe this continued for any new installs of AH.

The only time I know AH won't even boot up is when a sound card is not installed.

I don't see your video card listed on the Dxdiag, are you sure it is at least a 64meg card?

It's no longer installed into Program Files for a reason. The reason is that Vista likes to move files within the Program Files folder around. This is all part of Vista's, "Security" features. To avoid moving game files around you have to install the game into a folder outside, "Program Files."

Could we please have more information from the DxDiag? We need the first 1/3rd of the report all the way down to the sound input/capture devices. If you could also write out the error message Skuzzy might be able to decipher what is going on when the error appears.

Problem #1:

---------------
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500

Problem #2:

-------------
Sound Devices
-------------
            Description: Realtek AC97 Audio

The NVIDIA FX series just plain stinks. It probably won't run the game well. Next up you have onboard audio which eats up processor cycles in order to play sounds. You would do much better to get yourself an independent sound card which will free up the processor some more.

It should run.  We have FX5200 users running the game.  Could be driver related though.  Has 2.14 ever worked on this computer?

Nope skuzzy, I ran 2.13 and had this issue when trying the beta aswell.  I didnt have time to test or mess around with settings though, was hoping it would work itself out with the final release.

Do the drivers for that video card also install the NVIDIA Control Panel? If so, try removing or updating the entry for Aces High.

Again, there are many players using the FX5x00 cards and are working.  I can only guess it is driver related.  Why would thier computers be working and not yours?  I can email you config files I know will work with the FX 5x00 video cards.  Just drop me a line.

One thing to note.  You must make sure there are no advanced settings being forced on in the NVidia control panel for that card.
