Puffy ack problem
« on: August 04, 2009, 03:44:52 AM »
Besides being behind a mountain getting shot at by puffy, in this film I'm also on the deck getting pelted by puff. I'm not sure if this is a bug with the new release, or it's always been this way but puffy should start shooting at 3000 ft above ground level( specially when the factory doing the shooting is higher than sea level). Not cruising on the deck RTB. www.dasmuppets.com/public/Suns/bspuffy.ahf

A drunk driver will run a stop sign. A stoned driver will stop until it turns green.

That's how puffy ack did always work, nothing new.
It doesn't trace a line of sight (hence shooting "through" mountains) and
the reference altitude is always the strat targets own altitude.

Those of us that have been around for a while and still remember Mindanao: There was an airfield up to the north that was >3k and close to a factory which was at the base of the mountains at sea level. When the enemy got the zone base and the factory changed country affiliation, you were shot by puffy ack on the runway  :lol

And I don't know much, but I do know this. With a golden heart comes a rebel fist.

it has always been like that and I was a little dissapointed it wasnt sorted with the latest patch.

Getting shot at the other side of a mountain on the deck (obviously above 3000ft Sea) in the coral sea frame wasn't cool.  If a million zeros and 2 cv's wasn't enough to contend with.

Might be me with my  :noid hat on but friendly puffy seems to be hitting more frequently also whilst i'm chasing someone.

Puffy does seem more intense and accurate since the upgrade.  No proof.  Just a feel.  Lost a B-17 drone and no one got the kill, so it must have been auto ack.

HTC says that if if wasn't in the readme, it wasn't changed.

So much for making it less lethal.

Funny thing is I think it was Thursday I flew a set of B26s over to sink a CV. I was at 10k and the kept on turning it so I would come back and make another pass. I made a total of four runs and spent at least ten minutes flying over a fleet with thick puffy ack expoding all around me and I didn't get hit once.

HTC says that if if wasn't in the readme, it wasn't changed.

They did change it with the update. There is a hell of a lot more of it when flying over CVs.

From the 2.14 readme...

Quote
Changed automatic ack to fire in bursts, adjusted firing rates
and
Quote
Fixed some various auto-acks that had been tagged to fire the wrong weapons.
This one I think referred to some of the 40mm weapons on the cv acting like 20mm, but can't quite remember what Pyro said, I think it's in the beta forum someplace.

*edit*
ahhh here it is... from a thread about torpedo ranges.

Quote
Torps didn't change but the auto-ack did.  40mm installations were previously using 20mm characteristics including shorter range.  I'll check torpedo parameters tomorrow to make sure we aren't short legging them.

Aside from shooting through mountains or at planes on the deck...anyone else think the range should be decreased?

No that's how its always been and from the looks of it that's how it will always be. You can hover in a set of bombers for hours over a CV and take no damage but get with close to a strat or CV with a Me262 and your bellybutton is dead meat.

Puffy Ack I've noted, since the patch, to be more friendly to small fighters and a bit more brutal on the over-sized buffs...  if they didn't tweak anything on purpose then the moon and stars must of alligned finally in-game because it's seems to be working as intended.

Definetley a lot more puffy.  Try flying a TBM through two enemy CV fleets moving in a tight formation now.  :uhoh  :pray

I know being in A6M2's over two carrier groups in Coral Sea was like driving a toaster through a car wash.

I was  :uhoh the whole time we were flying through it to close on some bombers.
