Super Thunderbolts?
« on: March 12, 2001, 02:13:00 PM »

During a H2H game the other day I entered the game to find that my team was on its way to capture an enemy Vehicle base..

we launched a goon and I followed in my D9 to escort the goon...A8 which is a regular pilot in the H2H arena was flying the goon...

Within range of the Vehicle base The Ack which was up for me but not for the goon (due to the late join bug which stays up for new players for 5 minutes or something) I continued north after a high con...

It was a P47 and within minutes we were turning fast and hard after nearly a minute or so I disenaged and told the goon to get the hell out of the area..I turned back for the Thunderbolt only to get back into the same predicament..I finally called for help and a friendly LA7 joined the fight..The La7 managed to keep him busy while I manuevered into a firing posistion..The La7 managed to shoot up the P47 a good number of times before I delivered 6 or 7 flashes including a mortal shot to the pilot The P47 managed to shoot down the La7 and give chase to me for nearly 30 seconds..I lost my right Aileron before I crashed into the ground due to pilot error (watching the enemy, while not watching the ground )

The Thunderbolt pilot RTBd with no visible damage only to the pilot

I know they had a reputation for survivability but that is almost godlike or something

is the P47 the strongest a/c in the game? if not which airplane holds the record for survivability?

feel free to share some incredible survival stories

There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

I fly the P-47 almost exclusively in the MA and from what i've experienced....no way   .  My guess he was "hacking" the game or what not or it may be because of lag.  Anyways the plane with the most survivability would probably be the F4U or the P47.....they are both very sturdy.  Hope this helps.

I play alot of h2h. Things often look funny there. Was he hacked? Only you would know. There are some big probs with connects in some h2h games. Maybe your shots never got to his front end?
Was the 47 driver a nuxxx name? Those guys are often very good being ex aH players.

I ahve seen some real shady things i thought going on in h2h in the past.
You can't beat free play

The pilot of the La7 was complaining to the P47 pilot about how many times he had shot him....

The P47 pilot responded that his pilot was wounded and he was going back to get a new P47...

It didnt seem feasible that he didnt even lose any parts of the plane...

I dont know maybe the P47 pilot will tell us about his Wells Fargo P-47

Don't discount the Fw190-F8 with my limited online experience of it, it survives about double the number of AAA hits a Typhoon would. Though I think I need to test some more =)

ON a good day, a Jug is the toughest plane in the game.  It was legendary for it's toughness.  Heck, there is one picture I've seen of a fellow who hit a telephone pole, sheared it off, and RTB'ed with a big chunk of telephone pole lodged in his wing root.  Now that's tough.

You have to get lucky though.  I've been downed by losing the tail plane or a wing many times to a few cannon shells.  However, I've also taken solid hits from Tempests and survived... although I think I lost a flap, one elevator, a gear, took an oil hit, and lost an ael.  Sometimes I feel like Johnson in his Jug crouching down behind the pilot armor!

Yep, sometimes the Jug can RTB when any other plane would be confetti.  It's one of the reasons I fly it.  Although I seriously doubt there wasn't some other damage to the Jug, it's not unreasonable that it flew on after a few hits.  A pilot wound is tough to deal with, since you start passing out as you bleed to death.  However, it is possible to RTB and land safely with a pilot wound.. I've done it.

I have read an account of a Jug pilot receiving hits to his engine and losing all the oil in his plane and still managing to fly some 200 miles home.Jug's were damned rugged in WW2 and i really dont mind when i shoot up a p47 and it limp away..i just think of that p47 story.
P51s on the other hand were notoriously suceptable to ground fire but in AH if an ack hits you you can often survive hits to the engine etc and fly for ages with holed oil or radiators.Im sure i read that a farmer with a rifle could down the p51 if it hit the weak radiator
The 190F8 had extra armour installed for ground attack and so should survive hits much better but if you've flown 190a8s into ack you will know that if youre hit in the engine IT WILL DIE instantly and you will lose engine with 1 hit even if you are climbing away from ack.armour or no armour the 190a8 is weak in AH.(hmm what a surprise)
If you want to Jabo in a plane use JUG if you want survivability or any othe USAAF plane...they are all rigged

hazed ,LW but penalised for it   hehe
