August 28 Jeep Race
« on: August 15, 2009, 10:34:39 AM »
I am making a post here as a lot of diffrent thoughts are being tossed around between AKKuya and myself (AKBmzawy). First Kuya is my son so we communicate a lot.

Shegotya is kind enough to be our CM for our unofficial Off Friday FSO Jeep Race.

Our initial objective was to just have jeep races for the fun of competition. Its very hard to find terrain that makes short 10 or 15 minutes heats on the Aces High Maps. Ideally things like moguls, inclines for ramping, and dense foilage for navigational surprises are very hard to find.

We stepped up the events by having some events where we did some killing and base taking all with just jeeps. This proved to be very fun.

Alas this got away from just being a jeep race because of the terrain choices.

Presently Kuya and I are planning the events for August 28 Race.

I myself like the idea of having some killing scenarios along with just racing. It adds a little spice to attract some more players. Some players in the MA have found myself and Kuya high up in the mountains wondering why we are crazy enough to be up there to begin with. After explaining why they completely understand what we are looking for.

Right now my thoughts are that we don't encroach upon the HMS events with the killing aspect. Since we are on the non FSO week I don't know if this is a problem.

Its hard sometimes to get people to respond in the forums, the silent majority, but we are wondering what the people want. Racing, killing, or a mixture of both involving base taking.

Responses would be highly appreciated for planning purposes.

I myself enjoy just the racing part of the jeep races the most.

I think you guys have it right to incorporate a mix of different types races from just races to captures without shooting to all out anything goes races and captures.  Also the ability to quickly reup and get back into the race is very important.

I really like the "Heat" idea as well.  Shorter races are more fun and allows you to start over completely if your wiped out.  Also some of us are good at one type of event and not at others.  Likewise the "squad" type races are pretty much going to be dominated by the well organized squad coming in vs. the adhoc division of personnel in the tower and the AK's proved that during some of the races last month.  So I would limit those types of heats until we can get more "squads" coming in.

Ideas:

Relay race:  A scenario where a team of 3 or 4 guys goes from point to point or just back and forth.  Troops and maprooms might be able to be Incorporated in this type of scenario.

Buddy Race:  Teams of 2 to 4 personnel covering a distance always staying within 500 to 1000M of each other and must drop troops at the same time at the end.

Run the Gauntlet:  Half the players in Jeeps running a course through open ground.  The other half in "stationary" tanks or M-8's firing from 1000 - 2000M away as the jeeps must cross in front of them getting from start to finish.  Once completed the sides switch.  This could also be a squad shaped event as well.

Individual Unknown Maproom capture:  AKDogg proved last race day that the maproom numbers can be changed for capture.  Change the capture number and do not announce to the racers.  No shotting.  Free for all to the same maproom and then drop.  Eventully enough troops enter and the jeep with the last guy in wins.  Now the number needed for the capture could be increased to a large number that would require everyone to make 2 or 3 trips until enough have entered the maproom to end the race.

Squad Unknown Maproom capture, best time wins:  Same basic scenario as above except players are divided into two teams.  This race requires 2 maproom lanes with team having it's own maproom to drop in.  Once enough troops have entered the maproom is captured and the stop watch stops.  Again the total troop capture number should be increased to make each side make 2-3 runs of each player.  Once completed then sides switch maproom lanes and run again.  Best combined time by a team to capture both lanes is the winner of the event.  This would maintain a fair race and avoid the argument of "your maproom was 1000M shorter to reach" or "yours was all down hill" etc.

Just a few ideas for what they are worth on jeep racing.

In time I would like to see some Tank Gunnery Competitions.  These could be run just like the Army or USMC tank tables.  Long distance shoot outs 3000 - 5000M shots using stationary Tigers.  Moving targetshot outs, stationary Tigers shotting at a MkIV driving a set path back and forth between two points.  "Dave and Goliath" competitions where 3 - 5 stationary Tigers protect a maproom against 20 players that can up in M-8's or Jeeps to capture the maproom, reupping allowed.  Best time to capture wins, teams switch.

At any rate there are a lot of fun events that could be planned using just vehicles and in time with advertising and word of mouth more personnel will come in.  Theres more tankers in this game then you know.  What would help is if we could get AHII to post these unusual events as a posting on the home page or as you load the game and get the daily message during boot up.

Again a big <S> to the folks behind the black curtain on these events.  They are a lot of fun.

I and many others really enjoy these races and appreciate the efforts of a few so that many others can have fun.  <S> to you all on that.

Those are some great ideas Viper.  Coversations between Bmzawy and myself have been narrowed down to jeep racing for the off FSO nights with some creative ideas like some you've mentioned.  The reason for jeeps only is not to infringe on Heavy Metal Sunday run by SheGotya and Marshal.

The ideas of gauntlets and Tigers and other shooting stuff would fall into HMS stuff.  Those are specifically for GV'ers on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month.  I've done a few and found them to be a blast.

The main idea for the jeep race is really the off road racing.  Traveling up and down hills, valleys, and wooded areas, jeeps races can be anyone's game depending on what route you take.  Incorporating some relay like events would be perfect. :aok

Bmbz and myself would like more people to post some ideas for jeep races.  The best thing is to go offline and load the different maps.  Criteria has fallen into these areas.
1) Races for a finish should be no more than 45 minutes.  Longer races should be warned for time to allow players the option of not partcipating.
2) Routes should be easy to follow using landmarks in game (train station, only windmill on top of high hill, lake, bridges etc.)

Options are starting points as to VH's and spawn points, base capture for finish including all town down or players have to take down town and supply troops from 1 troop to 150 troops to win, darkness and fog, combat or non-combat, to name a few.

I like the ideas of relays and buddy races for future events.

Keep 'em coming!! :salute
