When you know how difficult it is to fly close formation in Aces High it makes you appreciate how amazing these guys are:

Cool vids. thanks.

Flying in formation in AH isnt all that difficult. I used to do it all the time here with a group I flew with.

You just need three things. A decent flight leader who doesnt continually do the unexpected unannounced pilots who are willing to pay attention to what the flight leader is doing, and communication.

Even in the MA when on a mission. if your flight leader lets you know he's going to  ease right. turn north. Roll over to take a look before he does it then its pretty easy to stay in formation with him.

Problem is. while there are many good players in the MA and many good squad leaders. There are very few good formation leaders.
Its the formation leaders job to communicate with the rest of the flight what it is he's doing and any other pertinent information needed to keep the group together. speed ROC etc and most importantly. What it is he's about to do. and not to anything without announcing it first

The flight leader in game must realise that its his job to lead the group and his only job in looking for enemy cons is thats immediately viewable.
Keeping an eye out for enemy cons is a team effort.
Leave the low con lookouts to the other pilots in the formation. Its the flight leaders primary job to keep the flight together and headed i the right direction

If your the type that gets antsy and simply has to constantly pitch and roll around un announced to look for cons and cant at least maintain a steady speed and course. Then you arent well suited to be a formation flight leader and would probably be better suited to just trying to stay in formation behind someone else. because you make it impossible for others to keep formed on you or with each other

Likewise if your not the type that can pay attention to what other pilots are doing. Then your probobly not suited to formation flying
Outside of the flight leader its everyone elses job to form up on everyone else. Relitively simple Pull in as close as you can and put the guy in front of your 10:00 or 2:00 position and hold it there. the next guy in line does the same thing. once you get that down you will find you can form just about any formation you want and keep it there..provided you have a decent flight leader and then flight members to form on.

If you want to learn how to fly in formation come see me in the MA
Takes a bit of practice but its really not all that difficult. And the immersion effect is really cool
Just bring an attention span. a willingness to communicate about the flight and not hog the channel about what your kid did yesterday and the desire to work as a team
Death is no easy answer
For those who wish to know
Ask those who have been before you
What fate the future holds
It ain't pretty
