skin more? I am planning on it.

I installed my old outdated photoshop on my new pc so I can get back into it. I have been away from the game for a long time and just recently found enjoyment in it again. my enemies think I never left and my friends are glad to see me again.

HTC is fine with air a cutie type pin up nose art on player made alternate skins they just didn't want it as the default skin for liability rating reasons that could arise.

Air-A-Cutie actually is unfinished. I think its actually a good starter or restarter project I will pick away at. if i remember correctly I was contemplating submitting it as a p39Q and p39D since it was somewhere in between the two models as a p39N i think.

I did a 51 skin a little while ago, and submitted to Skuzzy, the reply I got was something like "you do know it maybe a year of more before this skin sees its way into AH due to the vast amounts of 51 skins"  :(

If I had my druthers, HTC would rate the skin submissions by overall quality, identifying some skins as so well done (Greebo's and Fester's, for example) as to achieve permanent status - but the rest I would start rotating in skins with every new batch, the highest quality ones first.

I suspect the skinners could look at all the '51 submissions and thin the queue out quite a bit.   Factors I would consider are the overall quality of the skin, it's usefulness in the game (is it a squad skin for a currrent AH squad, is it important for scenarios, etc).

Fester I am very glad you are getting back to skinning.  There are still some open 38L skin slots - have you thought of doing a 38L?

I suspect, but don't know, that this would be a lot of work for HTC--work that takes them away from other more important things.  The key, in my opinion, is that we, the community, make sure that WE screen the skins.  WE should be the ones that give very frank feedback if someone posts a horrible skin.  Let us be the filter, and make sure that if the skin isn't up to the standard, it doesn't get submitted at all.  That means we'd need to be much more picky about how we critique others' works.  We should use tact, no doubt, but we can't go and say "nice job" to every skin that hits this forum, because they're aren't all quality work.

Good to see Fester back, and look forward to more skins from him.

My opinion...

Good thoughts, Stoney.

I'd like it if the skinners could take off as much of the load of work from HTC as possible.   I'm not sure every skinner posts pics of their skins here before submitting, though.   I think I may have a couple that went straight to HTC, though its a habit of mine to get feedback from this group, especially helpful regarding accuracy - I think I've dumped more than one effort after it was shown the skin I was working on wasn't historically accurate.

Coupla problems though: often, the pics submitted are just promo shots and don't show enough detail in different areas of the skin to give a full evaluation.   And even if the skin/skinner gets a thumbs down from the group, there's no practical way to stop them from submitting the skin.

Long ago I had the idea of using lucull's Aces High Skin Department site as the gateway for skin submissions.   I thought this was a good idea because it 1) eliminated unreliable email as the method of transporting the skin files, 2) it would provide public knowledge of every skin submission, 3) it included screenshots of the skin so HTC could rule out poor quality or historically inaccurate skins just by looking at the screenshot, and 4) with the addition of several status flags, HTC could let everyone know the status of the skin submission - whether it was (A) Under Review (B) Accepted And In Rotation Queue, (C) Accepted AND Included in Next Skin Batch, (D) Declined - Quality, (E) Declined - Historical Accuracy, or (F) IN-GAME now.

HTC preferred to keep the system inhouse, but I still think using a website to control submissions rather than email is a good idea.

Looks good Fester.  I'd leave it on the 39D though as there is some suggestion it was a P400 too.

Love that P-39 Fester, can't beat a bit of skin on a skin I say.  :D

I'll not email HTC regarding the 365th P-47, as the general consensus here is that no one wants one of my other skins to make way for it and I'm not going to ask for someone else's skin to get bumped.

I've always thought it would be interesting if the skins were submitted to a council of sorts of skinners, where they would deliberate what got rotated out/rejected etc., and just submit a list to HTC, so we could see more rotation/quality control with a smaller workload for HTC. Of course there could be some nasty side effects for that but in a perfect world...

please submit this skin to replace a lesser skin by someone else.

most of the skins on the d25 are from players who do not play anymore so bumping a bad one that is poorly done wouldn't hurt anyone.

been wanting to fly this skin for a long time and am disappointed its still not in game.

there is no similar skin in game thus making it valuable and unique.

Personally I don't care if the player isn't playing anymore -- I care about the skin itself. It's also not up to him to bump skins, it's up to HTC as you know. They're no longer accepting skins for a number of planes, and have expressed that they do not like removing existing skins from the game due to a couple past "issues" with squads putting up a fuss.

P.S. I agree it's a great skin, just sayin'...

wow lot of things change when your gone a while.
so busa can submit 15 skins with 1 stripe changed and lock out a new aircraft? etc?

thats gonna go over well when the a6m comes out.
theres so many bad skins that should be replaced that your saying they have immunity because some defunct squad thats no longer around complained?

lol
im not buying any of this because its sounds like bs that rewards crap work thats hastily submitted or cookie cutter skins with little changes that fill up 15 slots.

I very much agree with your opinions, Fester. I wish there was some way we could change how the skin rotation works. There are so many wonderful skins waiting to be put in game, but will likely never make it due to the way the skin rotation is set up.

there shouldn't be a rotation.

good skins are supposed to replace bad skins based on skin quality.

if this is no longer possible due to other considerations.

then be warned you are now turning away on multiple occasions work from new people who are very talented and the loss is everyones.

not just one stupid defunct squad with 3 members clinging to an mspaint garbage skin.

take me for example. im a burnout just back with a flicker of rekindled interest in the game. im trying to get myself in gear to get skinning again.
I did a search of multiple skins over the past couple YEARS that i was looking forward to seeing and flying in in game.

the ones whos topics i punted in this forum are for various or unknown but nonetheless unjustified reasons not added to the game.

so the loss is mine now because of this policy?
it would seem so.
