I dug up some photos of a beautiful bare metal B24J that flew for the 392nd BG. Miss Minnie II, she was one of the very few in the 392nd that survived WW2 and was sent back to the USA afterwards. The plane was probably salvaged thereafter. Note the distinctive unit markings- white rudders with the black stripe in the middle. I believe the letter in the black stripe is a "B" on it.
A little history of the 392nd:
- Activated January 1943 and returned to the United States in 1945 and was deactivated that same year.
- Flew 285 sorties in the ETO; 835 people were killed along with 184 aircraft in this unit.
- Recieved a Distinguished Unit Citation for destroying an aircraft factory in Gotha.
