See those to <edit>two that is</edit> wires in the picture from above the P-38? Shoot one of those and the boom falls off!

I'm too lazy to do the full calculation, but wing + tail area is 1.5 times that of the P-51D, and just by Mk I eyeball you can see it has more than twice the fuselage planform area.
