Last post is just pointing out that having it automatically switch back to F1 view, when trigger is pressed, would only be effective in denying the bird's eye view advantage if external view was denied long enough that the player couldn't see the round(s) land (see them land in bird's eye POV).
I don't have film and I don't do this very often at all... But picture this: a tank is either stopped or moving directly at you. You aim laterally, and are then free to adjust only the pitch (range) of the gun's aim. Which is much easier when you spread out this dimension with a higher POV, just like it's way easier to aim panzer rounds sitting even just a dozen feet higher than ground level.
With a moving target, you only need to recalibrate your brain to be man-ack-centric so that you'd e.g. thoughtlessly move the stick to the left if viewing the target from behind it (facing yourself from behind target if it's within F5+F8's reach), or e.g. some other diagonal perspective -- But you never really need to deal with these complex perspectives because you can just pan around with F8. And there's few situations where you can "mortar" rounds over obstacles (man ack's round disappears relatively quick, just like all guns other than tank and 5"+ rounds).
