Me262

Hi all

Just been looking through 'Germany's Secret Weapons in World War II' book and I came across a two seat Me262 that I had never seen before (I had only seen single seat versions before).

Anyway, if and when we get the 262 (perk!!) then could we pleaasssssse have the two seat version because it sure looks more pretty IMHO!

  That would be cool with me, and it does look cool, but cooler still would be having to take a 'Radar Operator" along on those night missions(which someday I hope become a reality), so U can hunt Lancaster.
  Oh and they will also give us ultra violet lighting I the cockpit on a dimmer switch

umm thats a night fighter version... Me 262B-1a/U1.

The SN-2 Lichtenstien radar it had decreased its speed by about 60-70 km/h compared to its daylight counterpart.

Check out this site. This company is building several new ME-262's. I think a few are still up for sale. Several of them are 2 seaters. http://www.stormbirds.com/common/forsale.htm

I work as a volunteer on the Me 262 project at Paine Field in Everett, WA and can add some insight.  Classic Fighters Industries restored an original Me 262 to its two-seat trainer configuration.  It was recently returned the US Navy and resides at NAS Willow Grove, PA.  

There are five new Me 262's under construction.  Two will be dedicated dual control two-seat aircraft.  Two will be converatable from a single seat to a two-seat configuration by changing the canopy and spine (plus a few other items).  One will be a single seater.  

Two have been sold with firm customer commitments.  The remaining three are available but have some level of customer interest (meaning they haven't put money down yet).  The first two-seater is nearly completed.  The second aircraft has been purchased by none other than Messershmitt.

MiG, do they allow folks to see the operation? I'm taking a trip to visit my out-laws in Tacoma soon, and would love to make a pilgrimage up there to check them out.

raub, YES they DO!! i SIT in one of the
262's :-)
have been there after the oshkosh airshow this year. we met them during their lunch
time. all great people! they even wanted to
by my 262 t-shirt (i bought in oshkosh).
so, everybody, visit the guys, they are doing
a grat job....but hard to find at pain field.
BTW, safe your money from the boeing tour
(boring, unteresting) and by a 262 tshirt
instead.

i thought only 2 of thoughts radar 262's were made, hopfuly they were more powerfull than the single seat.

Raub, visitors are quite welcome to visit the manufacturing site.  Yes it is a bit hard to find on the airport.  Ask anyone where the fire station or Tramco is.  The hangers are the next buildings/hangers North of the firestation.  The location is abeam the numbers on runway 34L (south end of the field).

Hab, you missed the second best attraction at Paine field!  The Boeing Musuem of Flight has their restoration facility located here.  They are currently restoring an F4F Wilcat, the first F-8 Crusader, a B-29 wing and a Vought Cutlass.   Many other projects too.  It was halfway between Boeing and the 262 hanger near the air terminal.

   WWOW Mig... Nice photos, and a Beautiful Job on the 262,I have a old girlfriend in Seattle,should pay hear a visit and see the place,I was at the Boeing Field museum a year ago,some real nice pieces,The F4U they plucked out of the sound is Amassing, as is the Mig 21.
  Hey LJK Raub... u should come down to McMinville OR. the Evergreen International Museum has a Me 109G-6(or 10), it is in Perfect condition I go 2 or 3 times a year and worship before it.
