Sherry

I'm a big fan of "Frasier". In so many of the shows you either hear Niles or Frasier asking, "Glass of Sherry?" However, I don't think they have ever finished a glass of Sherry. So I get this bright idea to try some. Right off the bat I should have known something wasn't right since it had a screw on lid instead of a cork. Still though, like to never have found the stuff. At first it emits the taste of mild brandy and goes down a bit on the harsh side unlike most wines. But then the after taste has the, ah oh, the essence of dead swamp. I think I know why the never finished a glass of the stuff.

If you tried only once there's a great chance the bottle was tainted. It's like sipping a 5 bucks bottle of corked wine and thinking what is this crap people talk about..

I could never believe how big differences there could be between different wines and sometimes different bottles of the same wine untill I started drinking it.

I somehow get the impression that he may have gotten a bottle of "cooking" sherry!?!? If that's the case then yep, nasty tasting would be the word, but it works well for cooking.

Good quality sherry tastes alright imo, then again i drink anything......hey marines are issued cast iron stomaches.

Real sherry i sgreat although you will find a lot of them have scew caps since the wine industry is going back to screw tops cuase cork is getting more expensive . So dont let the caps fool great sherry is worth the buy !

Stick to single malt Scotch whiskey, at least after one glass you won't feel so bad

IIRC the quality of the wine or sherry or port in the bottle depends a great deal on the seal.

Cork sealed bottles if not stored correctly (setting with the top UP) shrinks and let the outside air in and inside air out?

Ever go into one of the expensive wine places and see all the bottles setting with the tops tilted downward?

IIRC it keeps the cork wet and saturated so it doesn't shrink.

I will not buy a bottle of corked wine thats been setting in a grocery store for what may be years.

It's very rarely any good!

Screw caps have at least in some wines proven to work better then the cork.......

Yep contrary to what many believe screw caps are better than real corks. They are consistent in quality where cork often gives 'corked' wine i.e. oxygen has leaked in the bottle and tainted the wine. Also direct sunlight will spoil a wine in a jib.
