Gary Grigsby's Eagle Day to Bombing the Reich

Anyone have this title? I downloaded it from matrixgames for 30 bucks and while certainly not a visually stunning game, it has a level of detail and depth that I've never seen before. It's a neat concept, turn based but each turn plays in real-time. So you get to call intercepts and air patrols as you see the enemy raids coming in, essentially making it a real-time game. It's the allocation of assets and relocation of air and flak units that can only be done between turns. Each turn include both the daylight raids of the 8th and 15th, plus the night raids of the RAF. Let me tell you it's frustrating to see Mosquitos tear up your night fighters on the ground in a daylight raid when all your 109s and 190s are tied up fighting the 8th.

Have not played the 'Eagle Day' campaign yet, and only played 5 turns so far on the 'Bombing the Reich', but the level of detail is impressive. The game has a database of 18000 pilots who were there. I've already seen Gunther Specht KIA, and Kurt Tank get shot down (but survived). Kurt Tank was flying a 190A-8 with ISS Bremen, a factory staffel from the Focke-Wulf Bremen plant.

Knowing a fair deal about WW2 air combat, it doesn't take much to get your imagination going when you see the combat messages as events unfold. The game can also be played Play-By-E-Mail (PBEM).

Highly recommended for the strategically minded crowd.  :aok
