sleep mode
« on: September 08, 2009, 08:01:59 PM »
Here's something I haven't seen before;

Whenever I start playing AH (or any other game) it works fine for about 15 min then my pc goes to sleep.  I try moving the mouse and hitting keys to bring it back, but it doesn't work.  The only way to get it back is to press the reset button.  It does not do this if I am browsing the web or if the pc isn't running any games, then only the screen saver pops up normally.

I went into bios and selected wake from mouse and wake from keyboard (any key), I also selected never go to sleep in windows.  I have run a few virus scans and everything comes up clean.

Should I uninstall my monitor and vid cards and then reinstall them in device manager.

I am running XP pro SP 2.

Jolly, try this, Click start>control panel>power options>Power schemes to always on and select never to your other options.

Also, try this, Click start>Right click on my comp.>properties>hardware tab>device manager>click the little x to expand network adators>

right click on your NIC card>properties. There should be a tab for power managment, UNcheck allow comp. to turn off device.

If you don't see a power managment tab, then you do not have that option. Expand your other devices, R click>properties.

and see what else you have that will give you a power managment tab.. Do you have some kind of screen saver that turns on

in 15 Min...???  Hope this helps

check your Event Log to see what errors youre getting that cause the blue screen....... might point you in a direction to  your problem.......

reason I mentino this is I just spend a couple of  hours on the phone today with another player who was getting blue screens all of a sudden.......... turns out he had recently installed Google Chrome which changed some of his runtime librarys....... in the background windows was looking for some of the corrupted files and was giving him constant bluescreens

while this may be totally unrelated and far from any resolution to your issue...... you mentioned getting bluescreens... and that means there will be an event logged as an error which you might use to track  your issue

Yes, after a fresh install, and get the same errror, indicates some kind of hardware problem.

It could a bad sata or pata cable from the M/B to the hard drive, or the hard drive it self going bad.

If you can, and your cd/dvd drive cables are the same, swap them out and see what happens.

If you have an old hard drive ,or access to one, swap that out to..

oh ! before doing all that, see if your comp. dosen't need a good cleaning. maybe heat related.

post a dxdiag. I sure sombody will have other things to try...

think I found a problem..................when I pulled offf cover to check cables, I noticed the cooling fan on the vid card in the primary slot wasn't spinning.  I swapped the other card into primary pcie slot and moved jumpers and games been going for 30 min no probs.

Still gonna check the drives though

Thanks for the help
