This week: Greece 1941

THE BALKANS, 1941

Having conquered France, the Low Countries and Norway,
the Nazi march across Europe has been halted at the
shores of the English Channel.  Now, with the end of the
war's second winter, Hitler turns east and prepares to
invade his ally, the USSR.  But first he determines to
secure his southern flank, where the Greeks and English
are embarrassing his Italian mentor Mussolini.  The
panzer armies, with their Luftwaffe support, embark
upon yet another blitzkrieg campaign.

NOTES:

The setup utilizes the beautiful new Greece map; many
thanks to its designers.

The Yugoslav air force had purchased a number of Bf-109s
just prior to the 1941 invasion; Emils therefore appear
on both sides.  Italian, Greek and Yugoslav air forces
mainly employed aircraft which are not represented in AH2
at this time.

While both sides have carrier fleets, they are comparatively
ineffective, reflecting 1941 reality in Europe.  Axis fleets
have no aircraft and simply represent the Italian navy.
Allied carriers have only the SBD, substituting for the
Blackburn Skua.

Radar settings are a bit longer-range than would be historically
accurate (to wit: there would be no radar at all) in order to
encourage combat.

ALLIES (Rooks)

ON LAND:
Hurricane I
Bf-109E4
Boston III (in place of Blenheim)
C-47
Jeep
M3
M8
PT boats (at ports)

ON CARRIERS:
SBD (in place of Blackburn Skua)

AXIS (Bishops)

ON LAND:
Bf-109E4
Bf-110C4
C-47
Ju-87
Ju-88
Jeep
M8
Sdkfz 251
PT boats (at ports)

ON CARRIERS:
No enabled aircraft.  Carrier fleets exist to represent
Italian naval forces in Mediterranean.

Fog is set at 12.5 miles.
Traditional AvA bombsight (must be calibrated).
Radar settings as follows:
   Tower 132,000(feet)
   Sector 316,800
Fuel is 1.0 burn rate.
Ack is .25 (that is, considerably less effective than MA)
Friendly mid-airs are off.
Killshooter is on.
Strat is disabled.
Ten troops required for base capture (map room setting
 is .0015)
There is no radio channel one.  By convention,
people use channel 200 for cross-country
 communications.

AND PLEASE REMEMBER:  Civil behavior is valued,
and required, in this arena.

Changed ownership of a few of the bases to make it quicker to find a fight.

Yep 512 miles by 512 miles.

Ghostdancer, by the way, is the map's designer.  Thanks very much for this lovely piece of work!

Request,

The Axis vs Allies arena with the Arena message seems to be geared toward base captures  AND  duels.   Both with GV troops and C47s...

If you enable settings, you'll probably get more guys in the arena who want to take bases and have duels.  Hence a truly historic Axis Vs Allies campaign with historic planeset match-ups.   I love the aspect of base captures, and so do others.  That is what I really look for but the Main arena is all that there is with a big draw back with all planes on both sides..

Key Points:
1)Can't you enable Strat so that taking a town is a bit easier?   Gv's still seem to spawn after GV hangars are killed down but town rebuild is 15 minutes.  Makes a big headache for the nearly hard to kill gvs with strafing and fast rebuild times.

2)Can't you just have 2 colors in the arena, or design it so that the 3rd color is moved out of the way?  War between 2 factions, to match the historical map and  time period is for 2 Forces:   Axis  or Allies.

If you look for historic,  make it historic on those two points.  Therefore if you do this,  I and others I know will be in there more often........  Ultimately rejuvenating a nearly empty arena with what seems to be only 1 dedicated squad in there most times  JG54.   Its a beautiful arena map with plane settings,  just re-enable key settings for maximum enjoyment.

Thanks,
