Like Funked said, I can actually run away from something if I make a mistake. I have landed more missions this tour than any other.

Plus, it's a hoot to flying into a group of 10-20 bad guys at 400+ mph, only to wave and and outrun them.  

I been flying the 109G2 a lot. I can throw on a drop tank but it is doing a similar thing for me. It doesn't have a lot of ammo. It's not very fast in level flight so I have to think more about how I engage. Can't spray and pray as much. Have to get close and work it more. I might try going back to the Yak now and see.

The YAK-9, quite basically, is a G10 with the bad characteristics taken away and a little climb rate gone as well.

Wish the LW had this plane; would fly it a lot.

I find the Yak too unstable in the pitch regime to hit anything--I dislike it very much, however, it was much better in 1.03.

I fly the Yak almost exclusively, and I find that it is a first rate pony destroyer. Most pony pilots I encounter will tangle with me for some odd reason then try to dart away when they realise it was a mistake (not because I'm any great pilot thats for sure). Anyway, it's the trademark runstang dive that I look for when I go for a shot. Some pony drivers wont even look back to see that I'm right on them.  

While the Yak is good at taking out buffs, I've been preferring the La5 as of late. It just takes too much ammo to down a buff with the Yak, even when you concentrate it on one wing.

The best thing with the Yak is most arena pilots underestimate it. At co-e, if a Mustang makes a run for it, you have time to catch him, and that's not something they usually anticipate.

Yaks and La5's, my favourites!!  

I've been on a VVS-hunt ever since the first beta day, surprise surprise.  But in the last few days I've really paid attention to my performance against them.  That isn't too hard, since I run into them maybe once a day or so... I wonder why, since both planes are damn good.  Maybe I should be glad that so few people fly them?  

Anyway, the Yak is really a plane that needs to be dealt carefully in the G-2.  The Yak outperforms the G-2 in every aspect, except maybe guns at ranges above 400m if the 109 is an /R6.  In many cases I've survived only with the help of a squad mate.  

In the last two or three days I've had to watch many a crippled Yak disappear into the horizon, simply being unable to catch as it runs away after being damaged...    It sure is fast and accelerates well!

I love the Yak. Even got a five kill sortie in it last week (although I had to land and refuel/rearm in the middle), which is bloody good for me =)

Patience is the thing it's really taught me, I very rarely open fire above 150yds range unless the target is not manuevering of large (like a bomber). At that range it chews holes in anything. Getting in that close has taken me some time, but I can do it ragularly now. Guess it worries the guy I'm chasing a tad when I'm stuck to them like glue at 250yds and closing but not opening fire =)

I get more than the odd manuever kill too either when people try and follow my scissors at low alt or when they panic break turn into the ground as I dive in on them =)

Yeah! YAK rulez..   hehe I started to fly it couple of months ago and Camo started to squeak me about flying enemy planes..but anyway 5-15 kill sorties weren`t rare with that bird. And shooting range decreased from 400 yrds to 100 yrds so U had to really think when put yer nose in. I used that even as interceptor with 25% fuel it can outfight many basestrafers (includeng chog) and it also outclimbs and dives the usual types. (at 250 IAS about 3k feet/min). Final weeks (when I still had an account) I flew La-5 because it had much more ammo and chogs need lotsa hits to bring em down.Soviet made fighters (at least these ones) kik really ass.. wondering what Finnish Air  Force could have done if we could have had our hands on these birds...   (meaning if we could have captured about 50 planes ie.
