Wacky keyboard issue
« on: September 12, 2009, 02:01:21 PM »
Alright, this problem used to occur on one of my desktops (An HP Pavillion) and now it is happening on my new laptop (An HP Pavillion) but not on my other desktop, (An HP Pavillion) and I really don't get it. When playing AH (And ONLY in AH) there are several key that just don't work. The tilda key, for enlarging the text buffer, and the quotation mark key, for sending a check six. I can map those keys to any function and they do not work. I can map those functions to any other key and they do work. It is ONLY those keys and ONLY in AH where they do absolutely nothing. Does anyone know what might be going on?

Are you using the synopisis driver which also runs the touchpad.  This driver a lot of times wreaks havoc on programs.  You may want to try removing the driver and using the widows driver then reboot and see what happens.

Yes, I am using the synaptics driver on the laptop, though I am not using it on the afflicted desktop. So, to make sure I understand the suggestion, disable the driver (NOT uninstall it, right?) then restart computer? Or uninstall the driver?

LOL I think I am lost here too.  What system has the problem.  One system does not have anything to do with the other unless they are identical systems with identical software installs.

They both have the problem. It's the same keys that don't work in a desktop AND a laptop. They have different OSs (Desk is 32 bit Vista, Lap is 64 bit Vista). I am assuming (Maybe falsely) that if the two have an identical problem there must be an identical cause.

Did you ever copy paste AH folders/files from one PC to another at anytime?
Time's fun when you're having flies.

I had the same problem up till about 2 months ago.  but i thought it was becaseu of my joystick or maybe a game bug.  there's another posting about somebody that couldnt give check six or zoom in.  I tried deleting the settings file in the ah fold but it didnt work for me.  try renaming it and move it out of the ah folder then log into the game and that should create another settings folder or maybe copy the settings folder from your desktop to your laptop.  that was the advise given to me but it didnt work at least for me until when the new version of ah came out then deleted the folder and it somehow started working again.  there's some other guys that i know that had the same problem.  no zoom  function, no check six and no extend the text buffer.  not sure how the resolved this issue if they did at all.

you are describing exactly the same problem i had.  I'll bet it happened after the last update, mine started after an update 2 years ago.  delete or remove the settings folder from the ah directory then log in it should create another settings folder.  if your ussing another programming software for your joystick. like sst for my x52 unistall it then reboot and reinstall it.  hope it works.  like i said mine drove me crazy because i never figure out what happened.  all i know is I had un update then it stopped working.  I reinstalled the game and os several times and that didnt work. not untill the beta got released and was able to install in a different directory that it actually worked.  once the beta got released I had 2 versions, the old version it wouldnt work and the new version which all the funciton worked after i deleted the settings folder and started setting up my joystick from scratch.

here's 2 postings from me and somebody else

Yeah, my desktop has had the issue for a year or two, the laptop is brand new, so it's had the issue as long as I have owned it (About 2 weeks now). I'll give that a go and report on my success.

Guys,

I am having similar Keyboard issues as those described here in this thread.

On my computer I have 2 versions of the AHII software installed.

AHII 2.13 Patch 1 and AHII 2.14 Patch 8.

The problems do not occur when I run AHII 2.13 Patch 1.
The problems  do occur when I run AHII 2.14 Patch 8.

When I fly Aces High II with AHII with AHII 2.14 Patch 8 my issues are:

1. The ( Z, [, ], and ~ ) key scan codes are being sent properly, by the keyboard, to non Aces High II software.
2. Pushing the ( ] ) sends the ( [ ) scan code to Aces High II. (Or is being responded to as such by Aces High II)
3. Pushing the ( [ ) sends no scan code to Aces High II. (Or is being responded to as such by Aces High II)
4. When I push the ~ key , which changes the size of the Text Buffer, it does not function at all in Aces High II.

When I fly Aces High II with AHII 2.13 Patch 1, I do not have the keyboard problems.

The DXdiag info for this computer is:

I had the issues yall are mentioning. If you have these files highlighted in the the picture active in your device manager, uninstall them and it should clear up the problem. Only thing is, they will reload on every startup.

If you have a Microsoft ehome infrared Transceiver plugged in and the driver installed:
Disable it, in the Control panel\Hardware\Human Interface Devices area.
Also Disable the 3 Microsoft ehome Keyboard devices, in the Control panel\Hardware\Keyboards area.

I did this and it has resolved the Wacky Keyboard issues as well as the reinstall, at reboot, problem
