before you guys start arguing for the next two weeks about the probability of bullets bouncing off ballons and or killing sheep with lazer beams, ( the blond sheep is kindda hot btw).  Do you guys realize that the statement about bullets bouncing off ballons was added as a joke, not to be taken serously.  jumping sheep on the other hand is a great idea that could be used to distract all the dang bombatards.

umm I was just getting ready for two weeks of nonsensical rubbish about bullets bouncing off balloons

The balloons were not even made of rubber....

Under no circumstances would a bullet have "bounced" or "deflected" off of a WWI or WW2 aerial ballon.

Thats what I've been saying.

what if the ballon is made out of the same fiber as the uniform that elastic woman uses?  I believe that a round would be easily deflected.

I remember watchin the show on tv about a guy that got killed.  It seemed that a round shot at a shooting range, (and dont quote me exactly since i saw it a couple of years ago) was shoot to high missed the target, the dirt wall behind the target, went thru a wall in a building that was behind the shooting range. bullete went up when it hit the wall then of all the things hit an accousting ceiling tile, now this is where it gets weird, it skated (for lack of a better word) on the tile and it it arched down  go thru another wall and hit a guy, that was seating on a chair, in the head.  now this is an exception since bullets dont just change directions (up) when hitting a wood/drywall wall and specially will go thru a ceiling tile instead of bouning off of it.  but it just ilustrates the point that bullets sometimes do strange things.

guess the point i was trying to make is that ballon may not stop a bullet but it may deflect it just like the ceiling tile did.

I was thinking the other way around....

The thought of a piece of clothe (like used in balloon construction) deflecting a bullet is ludicrous.

Show me when I said it would repeatedly deflect the bullet. My original comment was stating that shooting down a balloon wasn't as easy as was being portrayed.

OK denholm, I won't come right out and say what everyone is thinking by saying you should read previous posts. Oops, already did, well whatever.

And we SHOULD have the mythbusters test if cloth coated in metalic paint (much like WW1 planes. And .30cal bullets didn't really deflect off them so I'm betting that my .50's won't deflect as well.

silk is stronger than ceiling tile, and the ceiling tile deflected a bullet, silk is also stronger than steel (looked it up in the wikipedia).  and I am willing to ask the girl in myth busters to prove it using her blouse.

just about anything can stop or deflect a bullet and it has happened, coins, buttons, cloth, newspapers, bibles, glass, u name it, more than one, probably not.   besides if I can drop eggs from a buff while upside down in here, I see no reason why a ballon wont stop a round from a tiger tank.  but seriously i would like to get back to the original topic of this thread, but I am still busy looking at the sheep ballons.
