A question on video card
« on: September 22, 2009, 04:37:54 PM »
Gigabyte Geforce 6200 8X AGP 256M Video Card

I am currently running with a radeon 128mb 9600gt and getting 30ish frames on full detail highres. This uses all available and then some vid mem. with detail off and bump mapping only I get an average of 70 frames.

My question is....will the above card run better than what I have.

Answer: NO

The Nvidia 6200 is slightly inferior to the ATI9600gt based on the specifications and not on real world performance tests.  (I did not look up any review sites for real world comparisons).  The differences between the two are insignificant.

I'd highly recommend the XFX 6800 if you're in the market for a "new" old card. :) Mine handles AH VERY well despite the 128MB onboard RAM.

Several other people asked similar questions on AGP video cards...it basically comes down to what you want to spend. Your system looks like it could use another gigabyte of RAM.

Rather than waste your money on sub par video card, you can still get a very good AGP video card by going ATI:

The ATI 3850 is probably the best option available for AGP.

But keep in mind that AGP is a dead end you won't be able to get any updates to your system after this. If you have the cash it would be smart to update everything to pci-e age. If you must keep the old stuff, 3850 would be optimal.
