My turn to whine.

Why will I ever try to fly a boomber to an enemy base again?

There is no way to spot and hit ack above 12K, and there is no way an undefended B17 can survive an attach when them damm fighters can intercept in 2 min.  No more bomber missions for me and that is the reason I subscribe"D" to this game.

Answer: to kill barracks, fuel depots , ammo depots, hangars,and radar.

There is no way to spot and hit ack above 12K, and there is no way an undefended B17 can survive an attach when them damm fighters can intercept in 2 min.

Answer: let the acks to the Jabos. They can be very accurate and effectively down the ack on a field, not to mention than after it, they turn into fighters that can kill oposition.

You are,evident as it is, free to do what you want, but IMO then you'll lose all fun because a nothingness. In WWII how many B17s were used to kill acks? In WWII B17s were BAIT for acks!. Use bombers to close fields and down HQ ,factories, and city. Let the Acks to Jabos. It is Historically accurate, and it is fun.

And if you dont agree with me, then thank all ex-37K dweeb bombers dropping laser guided bombs. HT has done the right thing, to make bombing inaccurate avobe 20K, and acks very difficult to hit by level bombers (as it should be). Again, it is accurate, it is historical. Sorry if you dont like it, but I find it OK.

Hmm, acks can be seen and killed from 20k if you know where they are and what to look for (note that ack positions now also have a 'worn out' spot on the ground around them).

Well B-17 operations will have to be like real life.  Tight formations for saturation bombing, and lots of fighter escort.

I'd like to see a more detailed model of the Norden, but this is a step in the right direction.

I personally have found a new love for bombing with the strengthened airframe and limited bombsite wich demands mid altitude or lower bombing.

I was on yesterday in a B-17 bombing a radar factory when a p51 which attacked me as I was dropping bombs abruptly demanded my attention.  

He tore into me pretty hard rupturing 3 fuel tanks killing an engines oil and ripping off half my elevator before I started firing back. I didnt kill him but kept him away from me while I made my return home on the remains of my plane which was now swiss cheese however in the process of running away I dived to hard and ripped my wingtips and ailerons off.

finding I still had limited control with rudder and enough lift at 200mph to maintain level flight on the remains of my wings i aimed for the nearest base. thankfully the p51 became entangled with a tiffy while I made my escape. managed to land right on the numbers  gear down all be it at 170 or so mph  

I got it on film its pretty cool to watch  

my point? buffs are tough customers and can now take systems damage without catestrophic airframe failure which makes life interesting instead of frustrating.

I don't have any problems spotting ack above 20K.

Survivability? Undefended? You have several gun stations you can fire from. Flying a buff is not a guaranteed suicide mission, you can make bomb runs and live to tell about them.

I am finally glad they fixed the very very VERY pinpoint bombing thingy.  

Granted, I took advantage of that feature in the past.  As far as my game imersion went, it kind of took me out of the game.  Basically the problem that I had with it was the 35k drops and "I only very rarely missed my target".  IMO that was BS, took almost no skill at all.

When bombing there are two ways to zoom.  The default key for zoom is z. After zooming in that fashion the default key for further zoom is [ or ].  Try this you might have better results.

Ah, you pansies, I did bomb acks before those were even possible to see at all from above 7k in early betas!
(even from 33k, into a field where from I didn't see any building because they dissapeared after 7k)

And that was due to good planning and studying of target.

So, now things are way much better, just take a good look at the target and bomb.

Is it possible your monitor/vid card  settings are too light/dark.

I got a little fustrated trying out the tanks yesterday(driving for 45mins looking for another tank, only to get straffed to death) so I took a B17 to a27 @ 20k to kill the hangars. I was able to kill the hangars and all ack(6 i think) without zooming the zoom(I think you where on at this time).

Later on I had alot of fun in the tanks @ a27. 3 tank sorties with 11 vehicle kills.

Take 4 BUFFS, V-formation over a base.. saturation bombing..just like in RL  

JABOS for ACK, sure! No problem! Tanks are GREAT anti-ack units too! When they get there though hehe.

One thing I'd love HT to put in are FLARES or MARKERS! Just like the brits used to use PATHFINDERS that would drop flares near targets so that the high-alt bombers would saturate the "right" place.. that would be cool once they add the blast effects to the bombs... JABO's would mark the ack and bombers would take it out.

Pinpoint bombing at 20k in ww2?  lol  oh  ok. Guess they didnt know what they were doin with them 500 plane strikes ...they shoulda just sent one !

That is the point there are only 100-140 people online at a good time, with only a 1/3 for one country that means there are only 70 at best for all country functions.  With the fighter the prefered plne for most it is hard to get more than 3 or 4 B17's together at the same time.  Note I have been on a 12 bomber mission (with my squad) hen we had only 25 Knights online and this left the remaining Knight to defend agaist greater numbers.  

I would also like to report that I am able to hit ack from 22K and higher, but I still drop on barracks or fuel tanks which to me look nearly the same from higher alts.

It is just taking some getting used to

I flew through cloud cover when approaching the target today in my b17... I must say it rocked!

no more zooming through the clouds  


as luck would have it I popped out of the cloud just in time to drop on target  


I only wish clouds were more massive and more common
