problems with ultra vista and custom sound packs
« on: February 01, 2010, 07:49:29 PM »
I have a squad mate who has ultra vista O/S. We have tried all the custom sound packs. We keep running into the same problem it always uses the default sound pack. We have deleted the file named sound then went into the game and it still had sound. We closed the game and went to Aces High folder and found a new file named sound. We opened it and there was a text file named cleaned (Token file for removing old files) that is what it said in the text file.We have tried putting the new sound file's from custom in the sound file but it still uses the default sounds.  So if anyone has any tips or Ideas they would be greatly appreciated.

Put the files from the soundpack into the folder named sounds.

When you download a soundpack and unzip it if necessary, you will have a new folder called Sounds.  Simply drop it into your AH folder (make sure it is unzipped).  It will ask if you wish to overwrite the default, empty Sounds folder.  Click yes.  Presto, your soundpack is installed.

What is the location of the Aces high folder.  Ex. c:\HiTech Creations\Aces High or is it c:\program files\HiTech Creations\Aces High.  Reason I ask is if it the 2nd example, This is the old install.  What he may need to do is uninstall the game completly and reinstall with the new install.  Vista takes control of any programs/files in the program files folder.  This is the reason Hitech changed is install to c:\HiTech Creations\Aces High.  I have a feeling Vista is not liking him doing anything with the folder if it installed into the program files folder.

If its installed the new way, then makesure there is only 1 sounds folder.  Ex.: c:\HiTech Creations\Aces High\sounds\(folders with the name of the planes).  Alot of people make the mistake of having 2 sounds folders.  Ex.:c:\HiTech Creations\Aces High\sounds\sounds\(folders with the name of the planes).

It needs to have only 1 sounds folder like this c:\HiTech Creations\Aces High\sounds\(folders with the name of the planes).

Well after trying a few things with no luck.My squad mate and I were talking skype and found that a option on skype would let me see what he was seeing on his screen. So we went through his computer and found a ton of file's called sound(related to game) . So I had him delete every sound file and custom sound pack related to the game. Then I made a new sound file and put it in the Ace's High file. Then I down loaded the sound pack he wanted unzipped it and copied and pasted them to the sound file and it is now working. So thank you to AKDogg,Shuffler,USRanger for the help  :salute :salute gentlemen. If anyone reads this that has loaded a custom sound pack and the game is still using the default sound pack. I would suggest you search your computer for all sound's related to the game and delete them.(Then make a new sound file and put it in the Ace's High file. Then down loaded the sound pack you wanted unzipped it and copied and pasted them to the sound file).

NOTE!  Be sure you only delete sounds related to the game. If you are not sure ask some one for help! :aok :salute

This happened to me when i installed a dedicated sound card. i dont think that was the problem but changing sound packs might have been the culprit. when i opened the folder it said cleaned, when i got back to the game the sounds were mixed. some worked and some did not like guns and flaps.
I did a clean instal of the game and this helped. had to redo all my settings but it seems good now.

i liked your sound pack dogg but i wont try to install it again w/o doing exactly what you just outlined.
i had no problem when i installed it the first time. the trouble came along when i tried to switch it up to rangers pack again.
