La5FN / La7 armoured glass error?
« on: May 27, 2001, 10:08:00 AM »

This is the best picture I could get of the La7 rear armoured glass at Kebly near Prague.

Its taken thru the outer canopy and the glass has discoloured with age.

Note the vertical re enforcing rib is only 4/5mm wide and is a moulded profile (not an added rib or metal bar). The Horizontal re enforcement has a similar profile with a wire inner cast into the over all shape.

Peripheral brackets are limited to an upper curved retainer and lower corner brackets which are behind the seat.

My point is that the actual degree of visual hinderance provided by the armoured glass was not as high as presently found in AH.

Given that the Yak's glass was thicker I am surprised how little visual hinderance (in comparison) it provides in AH and how much is given by the Lavochkin glass.

I have absolutely no idea what the position of this thing is. I can't judge it in any way.

Nice picture though and i believe everything you say on this thing.

Greetings,

Aren't those horizontal bars in sides of cockpit little too big in AH's Lavotchkins?
