A P-38 with the 23,000hp P&W engines. The L had like 1475hp P&W(IMHO THE BEST PROP ENGINE MAKE OF THE DAY) of cours youd have to do some remodelling of the wings since the R-2800-59 in a(I think 18 cylinder)radial while the standard engin on the p38 is an Allison V-1710-111/113 V12. And that still made the 38 do 418 and the 47 would do 428 and thats with the 38 at about 18000lbs and the 47 at about 15000 and while the 38 does not have the areodynamics advantage or the weight advantage it still has one more engine but it only has the 47 by 650 horses.

The AH P38 just needs 45-50 mph more below 15,000ft before elevators go uncontrollable and dive breaks that really slow it down.
