Yep, the Kyushu J7W(1) Shinden. Two prototype birds, first flight in April (I think) 45. It had major flaws, vibrations from extended propshaft, torque related instability on takeoff, and general instability problems in flight.
The Ambrosini S.S.4 had a much more developed airframe and was the most sucessful canard of the war in useful flight "envelope". However it was underpowered with a 960 hp Isotta-Fraschini Asso XI R.C.40 engine, a type that was not fully developed. It used a dual canard to help with deep stall and pitch authority problems inherent in the canard design.
Good gun set for an Italian bird with one 30mm cannon and two 20mm cannon, all in the nose.
