Saw them today at the state fair. Very impressive! There's nothing quite like hearing them play Stars and Stripes Forever.

The Drum and Bugle Corps gives me chills when I hear them play but the Silent Drill Platoon is just flat out bad.  When I enlisted I asked my recruiter how I cold be one of them he quickly informed me that I didn't quite meet the height requirement.  He said they are all 5'11" to 6'1" so they look uniform.  I was highly upset.  I did get to meet some of the guys when we were at Hooters in J-Ville while they were at Lejeune doing a performance, they were all pretty cool and loved their job getting to travel all over the place performing.  They told us they normally spend about 10 hours a day or more practicing on top of the normal daily life of a Marine PT'ing, field day, etc.  They also said that on performance days, it could easily be a 12 - 14 hour day depending on where they were and what time they were performing between rehearsals and inspections prior to the performance but their precision and attention to detail is nothing short of amazing.

My brother was a USAFA drill team member class of '89 i believe.  All i remember was trying to pick that gun up(they welded solid steel rods into the barrels so they could'nt use the weapons.  The real ones weight a ton(well i was 14 at the time) but to see him fliping and tossing that thing around was amazing!  one thing that people dont realize is when they do the (slow count down) from the arm straight upright postions barrel tip in hand, just what it takes to do that!    <S> to all drill teams ARMY,NAVY, UASF, and USMC.   :rock
