About the Spitfire Mk F.XIV, Thanks guys!
« on: August 15, 2000, 08:37:00 PM »
Good evening everybody.

RJ couldn't be here tonight to accept this award, but I know he'd be delighted by it.

I want to thank the Aces High Community for nominating the Spitfire MkXIV as the best piston engined fighter of WWII.  She was a grand kite.  There was a lot of very stiff competition for this award, so I must confess this is a special privilege to receive the award.  There are a few people who I feel that I must single out, special people.

Pongo, thank you for your vote.  You consistantly maintained that the level of performance attained by the Spitfire MkXIV was just too high for the Main Arena.  Your vote was crucial to winning tonight.

Fishu.  I have to give you my gratitude.  You helped push for this moment by persistantly downplaying some of our biggest challengers.  They were all very worthy competitors.  Kiitos.

Various members of the Community have helped by pointing out how powerful the Hispano MkII cannon, that the Spitfire MkXIV uses, are. You guys helped push us over the American and Russian fighters that we were up against.  You all know who you are.  Thank you.

But, by far, the greatest thanks has to go to RAM.  RAM, your tireless crusade for the Spitfire MkXIV has meant so much to us.  It is hard to find the words to express how much this victory depended on RAM.  He was there every step of the way, keeping us focused and on track, making sure that our competition did not overshadow us.  Making sure that the true performance of the Spitfire MkXIV was never misconstrued and to polish our weaknesses.  Thank you very, very much RAM.  This award is as much yours as it is ours.

Thank you all again.  Thank you.

Hehe Pongo...I guess this is a truly tongue in cheek thread...

Now wait and see Cobra coming and posting his:
SPITFIRE XIV!!!!
thing, and so

you get a good laugh when you see all from a relaxed point of view   At least is what happens with me

Ah, Karnak, BTW...I hope you find a quote of me saying that the Spitfire XIV was the BEST PISTON FIGHTER OF WORLD WAR TWO...   (hint: you wont find it  )

I said, endlessy, that it would be the BEST ARENA PLANE HANDS DOWN...but that is quite a different thing

RAM,
Nah.  That was light hearted, in jest.  I don't think the XIV was the best fighter, nor do I think that you think it.  Or you Pongo.

Seriously, this is the first forum where I have seen the LW fans give the Spitfire any credit as a good fighter.  Normally it is viewed as a good, for the Allies, which means lousy for the Germans, fighter by the LW fans.  They generally posit such an attitude that any German fighter is better than any Allied fighter if they were produced in the same year or if the German fighter is a year younger.  Which of course renders the Spitfire MkXIV a death trap when flown against the Bf109K-4 and Fw190D-9.

Both of you have paid many compliments to my favorite fighter   by objecting to it so strenuosly, and even if it is not added, I will continue to dabble in AH.  This thread was intended to be a light hearted poke at you guys, not a request for the XIV.  If it is added as a perk, I will have to content myself with flying it offline, but oh well.  I don't think that HTC will add another fighter that is too dominant.

Well I know it is one of my favorite planes.
I hope that some non destructive way to bring it to AH is found.
Sorry I was so touchy. I have seen alot of real antogonism over the spit XIV. I would rather not get that rolling again.

You know me, Mr. Hog.

I'd like to see a clipped wing Corsair II for the FAA once we get carriers.

Hey I do it for free for you in this version Will take some practise, but I'm sure I can chew away outboard wings of your Corsair

I'd like for the F4U's to fold their wings while flying.

I can also do it for them, if they want

I always wanted to see how they fold their wings. But since I'm such a dweeb and is not allowed on the deck of air carrier, I have to enjoy manually clipping their wings away   Hehe it's like catching a fly and riping it's wings off
