Anyways, I thought about it more. Being lead, it would make sense that the metal would liquefy on an impact like that, then quickly cool. It's an interesting tidbit.

This is my favorite bullet shooting video.

The guy shooting this .50 caliber BMG sniper rifle was very lucky indeed.  This was a true freak accident.

I've done that with a .22 when I shot a 10x10 inch slab of aluminium, titanium or stainless steel at a junkyard (dont know what exactly it was, didn't rust and was from a paper factory anyway). The bullet ricocheted over the pistol directly between my eyes. I found it at my feet completely flattened. Was lucky it didn't hit the eye. I thought I must have been the only one to manage to do that.. :)
