What is up with the increase in no shows?  I have an uneasy feeling that I am further into the tournament than I should be.  I guess natural selection will eventually catch up with  me.

Maybe a short list of alternates would be helpful.  A short list of guys who could be ready on a day’s notice to alleviate the rash of byes.  How to make it fair?  Put them in order.  Allow one chance to enter the bracket.  This would be to avoid anyone gaming the system to pick their opponent.

On the subject of early round elimination, it depends on the random pairings.  The initial pairings are random and fair, but they lead to some imbalance.  Seeding would help here, but it is impossible.  What to base it on?  MA scores?  So, would LW count for more than EW?

Another alternative could be a Euro style round robin tournament that is used to fill brackets for things like the World Cup.  I believe it is similar to the pool system used in the Olympics for basketball, hockey, etc.  As a stubborn American, I know little of the system.  It seems that it would allow for more flying and still end up with a champion.

This post is not an indictment of the current incarnation of the Dueling Tournament, which is great.  BaldEagl is doing a fantastic job considering the players’ he is handling.  We can be a difficult bunch.

While in principle I support the Round Robin as probably the fairest way to organize the tournament... it would be a logistical nightmare as everybody must duel everybody else.

The idea is basically: everybody fights one time against everyone else. Then the top X number get spots on the bracket with appropiate seedings. That's far too many fights to schedule.

Another more practical seeding idea: give byes based on performance in past tournaments.

Anyways, I'm enjoying the competition thus far.  :salute BaldEagl :salute

Just throwing out an idea for future consideration. There could be multiple red robins if the numbers are too large.  East Coast, West Coast. Eastern Europe, Western Europe, or alphabetical order or whatever.

1st and 2nd place have a playoff.     East Coast winner V West Coast winner.  etc.

But again, that is probably way to much work for one guy.
