Windows 7 64 bit
« on: October 18, 2009, 05:43:34 PM »
I don't know if any of you have even run 7 yet, however i was wondering if anyone can think of issues with it & the game. I have the 64 bit edition of Vista & 16gig of memory. The vista has a free upgrade to 7. I have windows 7 running on a machine I use for my home entertainment center & have had 0 issues with it. It is only the 32 bit OS. Thanks in advance for any help.   :salute

Solar, use the search function and type in Windows 7.........their are about 8 to 10 threads in regards to using Windows 7

I have not seen where anyone has had any issues using Windows 7....most everyone has seen nothing but improvements with Aces High over Vista........

it is recommended to back up your settings & Sights folders .then do a complete fresh install

this way Windows 7 will install Aces High to a new default directory

C:\hitech creations\ Aces High II\

Aces High no longer installs / defaults to the program files folder.......   :aok

I was running AH with win7 64bit with no issues.. except when the latest version update came out, it quit working on 7...

BUT at the same time, MS came out with a new win7 update at the same time that caused it to take 10 minutes to boot and then claimed it wasn't genuine once it did boot (legit RC download straight from MS)... but I just quit booting into 7 (running XP pro in a dual boot) until it officially comes out.

In other words, I think it was a MS issue, not an Aces High issue.

I installed Windows 7 Home Premium yesterday (it arrived in the mail yesterday).
I downloaded AH today (2.16 Patch 0), and it seemed to install just fine, but wouldn't run.
AH grabbed the display, then after a few seconds Windows says it has died (generic message).
By setting Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode for the executable, I got AH running.
My problem now is that I can't get anti aliasing to work at all, it seems. (8800 GTS 640MB, dual headed, AH on primary monitor only)

Update: Got AA working by changing the global setting, as opposed to Program Settings. Perhaps AH isn't recognised by nvidia's driver when it's run in compatibillity mode.

you should go to the nvidia's official website and download the WIndows 7 driver - NOTE* be sure you get the correct driver 32bit if you are using Windows 7 x86  or 64 bit if you are Using Windows 7 64 bit.......
( I am not up to date on nvidia's driver selection..... they may be all-in-one with both 32bit & 64 bit combined.........where as ATI they most times are seperate )

be sure to uninstall and make sure your system is clean of the current video driver then reboot your PC before installing the new Driver......

also make sure you have your Aces high installation installed in the C:\hitech creations\aces high II\  default directory, and did not install it in program files folder........another tip, is to delete your video8.cfg after installing a new video driver and before logging on to AH ( IT WILL REBUILD THIS FILE AUTOMATICALLY )

with Windows 7, you should not have to use any compatibility mode for AH, one would only have to use compatibility mode for OLDER programs/software .......... but YMMV.......

hope this helps, good luck

hi,

i am running since a week Win 7 as 64Bit Home Premium and AH on it.
Hardware Intel 6850DC on Gigabyte DS3 with 8 GB, an Nvidea GTX 275 AMP! and a Creative Xtreme Music Card
I only installed a additional sounddriver, using the default Win7 driver until now, because i am going to change the video card into a ATI HD 5870, will try the 3 display variant
Using Trackir 5.0 and Teamspeak. Got some seriuos crashes with XP and the latest AH2 release before.
You must checkmark the XP SP3 compatible checkmark box at your link on the desktop. Win7 looks real pretty, and real stable to me until now. same for TS

its worth, go for it

Yes, I naturally got the latest 64 bit Windows 7 driver from nvidia. 191.07. (I don't know if it's unified 32 and 64 bit, since I just specified 64 bit and got a driver.) Nowdays its a 145MB download, which I find just stupid. I didn't clean out any driver as I had just installed Windows 7 (never subscribed to doing that anyway, as nvidia should learn to do proper installation scripts).

With windows 7 you should always install AH to some other folder than Program Files. And you should run AH each new version once using administrative rights (right click, run as administrator). Otherwise there'll be problems. If a patch comes it will not install unless you run the game as an administrator.
