Yak-9

MB fix yak-9 FM first?

Yak-9 never could dive over 800kmh(by VVS test reports 750kmh was max speed limit. In dives conrols stiffened up much and became overly heavy. If speed went higher pilots couldnt straighten up the plane)

Pilots flying yaks in the front(VVS test planes were in extreme good condition)
reported many structural failures in high speed dives. Such as cockpit or engine cover tearing off at 750kmh. Fast production had it's drawbacks.

Finnish Brewster and 109 pilots used fast dives to ground level to disengage from combat against yaks, because these rarely tried to follow. La-5 and p-39 were different. Especially finns found it sometimes hard to disengage from La-5(FN?)
In dive it could easily go to 950kmh and even over if its pilot was enough cold blooded.(book top divespeed was 950kmh, but it could usually go more)

Verm.

I appreciate that it was a "wouldn't it be nice" rather than a "what we need" preference.

I see that it would be easy to model a Yak 9UT. I dont think it would be much harder to make a Yak 3.

Total Yak9U in service prior victory about 2500 total Yak 3 in service prior victory about 4100 (although 800 had to have faulty wings strengthened)

The Yak3 with the less powerful but more reliable  105PFT engine weighed under 2700kgs to the Yak 9U's 3200kg.

It (Yak 3) seems to be able to out accelerate the 9U and have better performance low down. Where as the 9U seems to have shone best between 13 and 20K (ft).

So MA wise the yak 3 is an la7 with  less armament better turn and better e retention in manouvering. But would be the the most fragile AC in the arena. (maybe even prone to wing rip under high g)

LaGG-3... urghhh
This plane for some reason I hate the most... even if it was made in USSR...
Ugly....
I cant believe you Funked put it togethere with beutefull YAK-1...

I-16 what we need... old trusty I-16... the MOST advanced fighter at its time, nice dive, speed, and not a bad armament... Bring I-16 and we see how soon we hear whines of yet another "UBER" soviet killing machine  :)
