HiTech, does it FEEL like 10 years to you?

Suppose that depends on how many of those bribes he's gotten over the years... :D
A Rook who first flew 09/26/03 at the age of 13, has been a GL in 10+ Scenarios, and was two-time Points and First Annual 68KO Cup winner of the AH Extreme Air Racing League.

"can anyone beat August 99?"

Not me. My original login ID was Sept 99 but lost the info for that.

I think only alpha testers have August dates...

Wow a lot of old familiar names in thread.  I bet if you ask HT it's probably feels like a lot more than 10 years on some days. :D

Oh and welcome back Pongo. :)

Wow, lots of 99er's  in this thread.  Thanks for helping to get this thing off the ground.  I don't think most people ever had an inkling of how difficult a start-up this was.  I don't know how we survived it.

September 99 for myself as well but I lost that account in a BB meltdown back in 2001.

I can only imagine, if you guys started in 1999 and the first Tour (v1.0) was in 2000 that's an entire year without collecting any revenue from the game and just trying to grow the future customer base through the open beta.

Pyro,
Having done a few go lives myself I was amazed at the time, and still am amazed.
You guys must have had a really really strong sense of the fundamentals of what you wanted to have made it at all.
I remember saying get rid of the knights because the sides were always 25 bish, 30 rooks and 4 of us knights..but you guys seemed pretty sure that more knights would show up some day. lol

It is fun to be back, and the most important rule of AH still seems to work. All you have to do is find someone worse then you to salvage the night. Golf and fly fishing are allot less forgiving.

It's interesting how the player base has and hasn't changed.  I remember that a lot of the players came from disgruntled WarBirds and from the old Air Warrior 3 fiasco.  I tried AW3 at the same time beta 1 for Aces High came out.  I was flying War Birds with our media account but wasn't really impressed.  I tried AW2 - that was a hoot but man Air Warrior was expensive.

Pyro: I think the player base has definately gotten younger, but I'm wondering as this product matures and develops further, what other enhancements can be made to keep the older farts still flying or return?

"I think the player base has definately gotten younger...."

I used to think that but now I'm actually beginning to believe it's "US" who've gotten
older!  heheheh

"...what other enhancements can be made to keep the older farts still flying or return?"

WWI planes! :)    Couldn't resist!  :)  Wish there was some kind of virtual Viagra that
would let's us stay up all night, whip our joysticks all about and permit us to shoot each
other down over and over and over again?

(fine. shoot me for that one)

Just remembered the first time I saw AH was when Hitech loaded up an alpha? of AH on
a pc at the AirWarrior '99 convention in Dallas.  with SB, NB,LW and Jonathan Baron as well
as a few others looking over his shoulder I though to myself this guys got balls for doing
that here - considering he was a creator of WB's and there was a competative antagonism
running between the player bases.
However with the complete lack of any updates coming for AW and relatively nothing
substantial about where they were with AW:Vietnam I immediately looked into AH when I
got back home and found out about the beta. Was 150% hooked right off the bat.
AH was way YEARS ahead of  AW and a lot better than WB.
