Other sims reskin the cockpits all the time as an upgrade without changing anything on the outer skin or AC model. I'm not picking nits here , just trying to get an informed answer as I'm curious about this as well.

The issue is that many of the old cockpit are entirely flat, lacking overall in polygons, and don't have any detail such as stick columns and throttle quadrants. None of them have animated parts, either. It'd be going from Old Worlde to Old World to just reskin them. :D

HTC has never done this with Aces High...
The problem would be that they wait so long to redo the aircraft, that even if the interior is rendered separately the boundaries of the cockpit are incorrect (relatively) due to the fact that you're using a 10 year old model with so few polygons. So if HTC were to redo the cockpit and leave the exterior for later they would have to redo the cockpit again in the new dimensions.

Understandably so for the older models, but I think the OP was referring to the current cockpits.

Yep, it's always possible to delete a portion of a model, but when you replace it with something new, smooth, and shiny...it looks very strange.

I think the OP was refering to the current cockpits.

A6M2 and Yak-9 have not been remodeled since Aces High I. In fact, I believe the Zeke is an Air Warrior port, but I don't really remember.

Yeah, edited my post above yours for clarity.

Which ones? All of them beside maybe the Ki 84 look very nice IMO.

Was speaking hypothetically as if newer ones (to replace the old ones) were under development. Agreed all of the current ones look good.

I'm sure all of the other old ones will be replaced eventually, but with only 2 people doing the art work it is going to take some time.

As I understand it, the cockpit "art" is part of the skin.  Ask some of the skinners.  I recall Krusty mentioning a skin he made being rejected because he modified the cockpit art.

It would stand to reason then that the cockpit 3-d model is part of the aircraft's 3-d model as a whole.

Why update only part of a 3-d model anyway?  Expedience?  Wouldn't you rather wait for the whole package?

There are no ports or copies of any art or code from other games in AH.  It is all produced and owned by HTC.

Sorry, meant WarBirds. I get them confused since I never got to play either of them online.

HTC was involved with WB, and I vaguely remember a discussion about them bringing content with them. Whether any of it is still around or not, I don't know.

Yes, but they don't own the rights to any art or code from Warbirds.  AH is all HTC's.

If you look at the A6M2 model from WB 2.x and the one from AH you will see that the AH model is much, much more detailed.

HT made Warbirds. I dont think any of the content was brought over. I've flown WB's since it was CK.
