If buying a new 9800 GTX+ one might as well buy the GTS 250. Might be easier to sell on later.
Wasn't worried about selling it later on...but I did find an awesome deal on Amazon.

XFX GS250XZDFC Geforce 512 GB GTX 250 DDR3 PCI-E 2.0 Graphics Card - $129.99 + $6.99 for Amazon Prime Saturday delivery

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002733L54/ref=ox_ya_oh_product

Thank you guys for the advice...I hate spending the money  but I hate the stuttering and low res graphics worse.

Even managed to get a licensed copy of Win7 Ultimate 64bit...and the wife ack is out of town.

That should be a massive step up from your previous card!
Enjoy!

Yes but a 9800 GTX (/w or /wo +) will out perform a 250.

You are probably thinking of another card as the GTS 250 is virtually identical to the 9800 GTX.

I don't think so Chalenge.

This is a more detailed spec info on the card I just purchased (discontinued item):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150357
The processor is faster by a few MHz.

vs the 9800GTX

Except for the overclocked versions they are the same basic card...I just couldn't resist the overnight Saturday delivery for $7 extra.

I upgraded from a 250 GTX when the card did not perform as well as the 9800 GTX I already had. I was really hoping the 1GB of memory would help it out some but it seemed to drop performance. Here is hoping you have a different experience.   :salute

Yeah I know what you mean Chalenge...I heard from several people at work that the 1GB cards in general weren't that great and until you get into the 260 series and up...and with the 250 series the performance is hit or miss. I'm really hoping this 512MB card will do the trick all things considered.

That must be due to specific differences in the implementation of those cards. Or your settings changed when you swapped cards.

Some could argue that having SLI would be a definition of that. :)
