Stories like this will encourage me to send my kid to a private school....

Well, I have experience with both sectors, and from an education standpoint, public is MUCH better. Private schools might give the more 1 on 1 attention, but they don't have the funding (for the most part) for the more advanced classes. I was TAG tested and approved for all subjects, but, switching to a private school, they didn't offer the TAG program, so, I went through 3 years of review, then, switching back to public schools, put me behind. Double sided sword.

my HS (BFHS) has around 500-550 students in it. though there has been increase talks of a merger of us and one of two other schools which are right next to us.

the PSSA's i dont mind... ive always scored avdanced every year i have taken them (5th and 8th grade). this year is my last year for them. im just glad im my age and not a couple years younger because now, 3-8 takes them and then again in 11th.

but 4sights on the other hand... they are the most useless test i have ever taken... luckily my school finally let us stop taking them if we score advanced. wish they would have done that 2 years ago...

as for public vs private...
there is no merit to it because my school district Big Beaver Falls ASD is(well, at least in the last few years we had been) ranked in the top 50 schools in the nation for technology and in scores yet BF has one of the worst reps in western Pa and it is a public school. We also are the only school to offer as many business classes as we do in the whole county.
We have a school district right next to us which actually is a race based school (there is 7 colored kids in the whole HS 8-12th grades and the school lines show it also) and is  literally run by crooks but yet is considered a good school and better than us. back in the 70's they were a part of our school district but then they sepperated when all of the civil rights were happening and starting to end.

but in the end, i wouldnt want any other school than the one i have now. we have the best AA football and basket ball teams in the state and this years baseball team is going to kill!

Even if I have to mortgage or sell every last thing I own!

Strip
Doesn't make any difference. My buddy goes to a private military school (21k a year!) down in San Marcos, his roommate got kicked out for having drugs. Doesn't make any difference where you send them to, may as well send them to high school, where they can learn to socialize with all different kinds of people.
No one knows what the future may bring.

"throw all your old, un-needed electronic junk here" bins.

There's probably core i7s and gtx 295s in there now and the kids don't have the first clue. I remember a camp I went to in 4th grade over the summer,we had a "take apart" activity,I got a Pentium 4 CPU, some HDDs "wish my dad hadn't thrown em out" a turntable, some mobos, and other junk. I mainly used the mobos as oil refineries and gas stations when playing with toy cars, lol

Oh, trust me, there aren't. Mass amounts of less-than-50GB hard drives, Celerons, and Pentium 2s/3s from the old computers used in the computer construction class. We had plenty of people willing to pick it clean.

At the same time, though, there were a few battlebots running on Intel CPUs. :D

I have a (pretty boring) YouTube video of our battlebots in the beginning Engineering classes where we used Lego Mindstorms to make robots. Due to a bunch of changes currently occuring, we didn't have the time or ability to make actual robots like in the past years...which kinda sucked, but it was still fun.

I was proud of my robot, though. I kinda cheated by using the design from the home kit's manual. It wasn't so cheat-y due to having to design things to work around it (like the damn light sensors). It was the only one that completed every challenge throughout the whole year without needing a complete redesign or gearing change.

I usually get a few extra bucks here and there from old computers. I collect a few, strip them of parts, use the better ones from each and make a computer that is able to run Ubuntu or Windows XP Lite and sell it for $50 bucks who just needs it for email/internet surfing. Those old computers work wonders for that kind of stuff.

We'd do the same thing except that all of the equipment has been in the hands of those who don't know anything about computers (hence why they're taking the class) and have been disassembled/reassembled at least twice every year for the past seven or eight years or more, the hard drives having been formatted by FDisk and the XP installer at least 16 times a year into five partitions. You never know if you have a wonderful part or one that's about to kick.

Haha, watching that again reminds me of my sabotage...I beat that one with the huge lego-built swinging arms by stealing one of the bearings he was using as weight in the boxes. It got up on the table, spun up, and tore itself apart. Later on I got screwed over by not saving my program before shutting the computer down, so...karma.

Hell, we pull that same soup. Course ya gotta do it during the 10 minutes between classes, or sign into class, and then sneak out. as for the security cameras, we aim for points higer than the ass.

Wait a second... You get 10 minutes between classes?!?!? My school only gives us 3!
