Cannot turn on anti aliasing or aceshigh.exe stops working.
« on: November 01, 2009, 01:29:26 PM »
I'm running AH at 1920x1080, with 1024 textures, detailed terrain and water off, and anti aliasing off, getting 45-60 fps.  Decided to turn on some anti aliasing and see if it would make a difference in my frame rate.  So I go into video settings, move the AA slider to the right (any amount, it does the same thing) and click OK.  Instantly when I click OK I get the windows pop up "aceshigh.exe has stopped working" "check online for a solution" "close the program"  doesn't matter which option I click it just closes down AH.  Any thoughts.

The 8400 GS is going to be highly taxed pushing that resolution and antialiasing at the same time and you have far too many background processes running.

Did you try cleaning all video drivers and installing the latest from the cards manufacturer?

If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

I'm pretty sure you're not going to be able to use AA at all with that card....
Gonna need something with some more horsepower...
Just so you know, as far as Nvidia flavors go, the 8400 ranks quite low(probably bottom of the barrel) in the 8000 series..
http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/132  <--go here, look at the comparisons and read the article at the bottom as well..
It'll tell you everything you need to know on how to judge the capabilities of a video card for both ATI and Nvidia..

I had the 8500 and it would get decent fps (40's)  but not with that resolution I had 1440 x900.  I had everything on except for water reflections shadows at 512. and I was using an old pentium 521 processor. lower your resolution a bit if you want  anti-aliasing.   or just go without it.
