I have an older Hewlett-Packard Jetdirect 500x print server. (Now out of production, replaced by the
510x.) For several years it has been totally reliable. I have it wired into my home network, and have two of its three parallel ports occupied, with an HP DeskJet 950C and an HP LaserJet 5P. It gets its IP address via DHCP from my router/firewall, and has a little Java-based interface I can get to with a browser from any computer on my network. If you have a few older printers with parallel ports and no Ethernet ports, something like the Jetdirect is a handy gadget.
