im not sure how rare or common they were but if they were rare they could be good perk rides that fall in between 190d9/109g10 and current 109g6/190a8.

I think that the boosts were very common in the later aircraft - and isn't this what our 'WEP' is supposed to represent in these rides anyway?

I don't think anyone will pay perks for a G6.

You miss the point... 109G6 doesn't give the performance of one with MW50 even if it uses WEP.

Which brings up another question - is the WEP in AH just a power percentage increase that is standard for all aircraft, or are they different per aircraft, and based on the WEP or boost capability of the aircraft? Since they shut off after a while, it seems that they must be trying to model some sort of boost, water, nitrous, that runs out...

Pardon my ignorance - I just don't know the answer to this one.

I think we're passing each other a bit here Fishu - my point is that even with a superior boost in the G6, would anyone want to spend perks to fly it? It is a solid non-perk aircraft, don't get me wrong, but I wonder wow much increase in performance would we see vs. the 'WEP' it has now, and if that would be enough to make people spend points on it?

I think the G-6 in AH doesn't have MW 50. A version with the MW 50 would be nice to fill the gap between G-6 and G-10. It would be speedier, especially on the deck.

The A-8 in WB has the boost override system that (according to the A-8 manual) gives same performance as petrol ADI. A-8 manual has no mention of MW 50. There is, though, a data set for A-8 with GM-1. That would be a useful addition for high-altitude combat (like intercepting BUFFs).

yeah, it doesn't seem to have MW50 to me either... but what is the WEP setting representing then? Just having the throttle truly set to 100%?

WEP is usually very high manifold pressure and/or high RPM. You get more power but you reduce the life of the engine, hence the time limits.

There was never a 190A8 with MW-50. There was provision for adding it, but the Methanol kits were in short supply and priority was given to the G10 and D9.

A lot of the A8`s did have GM-1 Nitrous injection to improve their high altitude performance. I think that is already modelled into the A8 in AH.

The 109G6 with MW-50 came in several different models;

There was the G6 with a DB605AM engine, which was the basic engine with MW-50 injection. (That`s what the `M` in the engine designation stands for)

And there was the G6 with DB605ASM engine. This was the basic engine with a larger volumn supercharger, (the `S`) and MW-50. It had better high altitude performance than the G6 with a smaller supercharger.

I think one of these two should be modelled, probably the standard without larger supercharger, since it was more common and the one with larger supercharger is close to what we have in the G10.

funked - is that the case with the 109s? Or maybe to rephrase, did the 109s at 100% throttle truly have enough power to damage the engine? I know that the pony had a throttle stop that you had to press the throttle past to enable the WEP, and that it would quickly begin to tear itself apart - are you saying the 109 had something like this? I've never heard of this - though I have heard of LW pilots saying that they ran at full throttle almost all of the time over Germany against allied air raids...

German power ratings were:

1.(a) Sonder-Notleistung(special emergency); this refers to the use of GM-1 or MW 50.
1.(b) Start-u. Notleistung(take-off and emergency power, 3 minute limit?)
2. Steig-u. Kampfleistung(climb and combat power)
3. Reiseleistung(cruising power)

British power ratings were:

1. Combat setting(5 minute limit)
2. Max. Climbing(60 minute limit)
3. Max. Continuous(no limit)

They also used another setting for take-off( 5 minute limit).

American power settings were:

1. War Emergency Power(aka: WEP, 5 minute limit) - usually implies the use of water injection.
2. Military Power(15 minute limit)
3. Normal Rated(aka: Max. Continuous, no limit)

Again there was also a "take-off" power setting(5 minute limit).

As far as I can tell, the numbered settings are equivalent - but only the American names are used in Aces High.

Now if they could add MW50 starvation that would be especially neat. Actually running out of methanol,right now it works like the Allied engines did with water injection to cool down the engine while overboosting.
