If you scroll out just a tad, some of those features look awesome, like leafless trees on a sunset background.  Who would have thought something so burned looking could also look so awesome?

It's in Australia but you're hundreds of miles off.

Here is one with some war historical significance from last week.
Bonus points for finding out, what happened, when, and what is this somewhat significant place right in the middle called  ;)

And here is just an unorthodox bonus, not related to the one above. Which city?
What if the AH cities looked like Google Earth cities  :noid

I am thinking Petrozavodsk, Russia.  It was the site of a significant Soviet offensive in 1944 to re-claim territory lost to Finland.

Mensa found the place.
The village at the center of the pic was called Mainila in 1939.

An invented smoking gun of that time, a fake justification for starting the Winter War.

Anyone found the city yet? ;)

I'm not going to look for the city, since I don't want to do the whole shift downward & pan around to see each city.  My attention span sometimes doesn't even last as long as is required just to find the cities from the overhead view.  :) But I'll read with interest when someone else finds the city. :)
