I'm all for more lightly armored, non-mobile targets that only point in one direction.

wrongway

Lightly armored yes, Non Mobile. Not true, Was able to be moved by picking it up and moving it or by hitching it to a GV. Targets that only point in one direction is wrong. The Pak 40's Turrent was able to turn to aim, Now If a target was completely to his right or left he would then have to move it then reaim yes. But Aiming in only one direction is wrong so is it not being able to move.

And Since it was lightly armored the Germans there for made it small. Why Small you might ask? because since it was small it was harder to target by other GV's and could be hid well.

How would this be coded...one person would drive the Skdfz thingy, another 'spawns' a Pak 40. From there, the Halftrack presses a key command to hook the Pak up to the Halftrack. While the Pak 40 spawner is on his ride, he can gun in the Halftrack, and what not. The Halftrack can unmount the Pak by the same key command, and the Pak 40 can hammer a town?

person would spawn skdfz or jeep so on. someone else would spawn a Pak 40. Pak 40 would move to GV or GV to Pak 40. Pak 40 presses a key command and hitches to the back of the GV, The person in the Pak 40 stays in the Pak 40. person in pak 40 then presses same key command to unhitch then move to where he wants freely.

I see where you are coming from, I like it. When you say move where he wants, you are talking in a vicinity, say 10-15 feet, to reposition himself? If he wants to move more he'd have to get another Jeep or Halftrack?

Yes but the person can walk/move it how ever far he pleases lol...but a jeep / halftrack would be hella faster. and repostion himself is right.

Maybe you're more hooah than I am, but I wouldn't be too thrilled about moving a 1.5 ton gun anywhere, wheeled or not.  Go push your car around a parking lot with the engine off for a few minutes and see how much fun it is.

I'm thinking the same thing...sure it's on wheels...but I'm sure even to adjust an angle it would take 2-3 guys.

be like battlefield where you had Pak40s, but you could rotate the gun 360*. Basically it be like the 2 guys manning the gun picking up the support legs and rotating it so they can get a different field of fire.

yes i understand what you mean but this isnt real life lol. no matter how hard you want to believe it is .
but you know that in WW2 they did have these and they did use them. and i just thought that people would llike the idea of having them because it would give us more of a choice in GV's and would make GV'ing harder which in turn would make it more fun.

Yes i do understand the part about having to pick it up and move it around but still if they could do it in WW2 we can do it now. plus its not like we would be moving it around all the time lol.

Nice idea, but...you're getting real close to WWII online. I mean, the coding involved in not only allowing it to be towed, then deployed, then manipulation and firing...it's got first person shooter written all over it. Considering the existing code and the mechanics of manipulating GV's in AH...how about something like this:

Nothing but modelling and a slight change to the existing tank codes would be needed.

Pyro himself has already replied to a thread about towed artillery. He regrets that it isn't in-game and wishes there were an easier way of implementing it, but it isn't all that feasible with the current game engine.

A couple of ideas to make it work in the current system: -

They could just make a half track that when you press 'O', the gun moves away from the vehicle and can be manned using the '2' key.  It isn't truely hitching/unhitching, but it would make AT guns possible.  This way, in the coding both the half track and the gun would only be one vehicle with the gun set as a gunner position.

Alternatively, the AT gun could be set to be similar to a bomber drone, so that it follows the half track, and when the 'O' key is pressed, rather than follow the half track it stays in position and can then be manned using the 'ctrl 2' key.
I am not ashamed to confess that I am ignorant of what I do not know.

Yes i will ammit i got the idea from WW2 online but seriously it would be great to have.

and i understand about the engine not being able to hold it but then again it wouldnt be that hard for them to make it where you spawn up as a GV with a pak 40 on it and then drive to a spot. Press a button to deply then press same button to redeply. one person.

my idea is that the person who upped the half track also mans the gun (like all one big vehicle?)
