JU88 climb rate and fuel load
« on: March 20, 2001, 08:26:00 AM »
Why is it that a JU88 with an identical bombload will have the same climb rate regardless if you have 25% or 50% fuel loaded?  The climb rate always seems to be 1K/min.

Ju 88 fuel load is quite small for bomber, especially if you compare it to other bombers. This means that taking 25% fuel instead of 50% matters less in Ju 88 than in other bomgers which carry more fuel relative to plane weight.

Of course, Ju 88A-4 fuel capacity could be more than doubled by the common use of fuel tanks in the bomb-bays...

*reminds people once again about Ju88 A-4's 1000kg bombs and MG-FF/M option*

JU88 climb rate and fuel load

At first i thought the ju88 climb rate was little different for differing fuel and its true it makes very small difference but it is there. What you may not have noticed however is if you increse your speed 10-30 mph faster than the auto climb speed this also makes little difference to climb rate.
I think what we have in the ju88 is a 'Different' kind of bomber. Its designed to get to the target with speed, manouverability, and with a decent payload.
Now i dont know for sure but i have come to accept the ju88's querks in climb and now plan my runs differently. In dull heavy bombers you just point and wait until you get there,in the ju88 you need to think your way in  .
Im happy with its performance myself but i think giving the ju88 all of its loadout options would only be right.the torpedo's were a welcome addition, possibly other weapons(antipersonel etc) would not really work in AH, but i would like to see loadouts like i read about in books.(eg many field conversions)
