The difference between H and J/L models with the B-33 turbo appears to be combination of limited intercooling capacity, pressure losses in the leading edge intercooler and not so effective intake for RAM.

Hey Festerbot and Laz... yea the 38 gets some radiator hits but it sure does beat seeing my bellybutton flopping away as I go back assward to my demise :P I still GO to my demise but at least I get to see alot more parts falling off as The Festerbot says.

Hey Fester... we outta goto the DA and let me film you killing me in a 38...  :)I lost those films you sent me way back when.

Of course, I only see what he posts here and what he does in the MA.  I know virtually nothing about the man.  I think its important for people to realize that we don't really know squat about each other.... definately not enough to use words like "hate".

That was true in the ETO but not in the MTO.  Since operational altitudes in the MTO rarely exceeded 15,000ft, a P-38 could easily dive after an escaping German plane and catch it.

Hi Ack-Ack,

I'd say that at low altitudes, the P-38's Mach problems were not as serious as at high altitudes.

Hi Tac,

>Err.. I think it became worse as it went higher.

Hm. Isn't that what I'm saying?

"Down low, the problems weren't as bad as at up high."

Yea, Gripen I read somewhere that the L had better engine cooling capablity thus it was heavier than the J? More piping I quess...

I've kind of wanted a p-38 late J model in the MA as it was lighter and faster...

Actually I was talking about intercooling capacity ie. ability to cool intake air between turbo and engine stage mechanical supercharger (and this was a limiting factor in the H but not in the J and L).
