Anti Piracy vid
« on: November 26, 2009, 08:50:02 AM »
This is a video of the new tactics being employed by maritime shipping companies to stop Somali pirates. While the Maersk Alabama was not mentioned the tactics sound like this is what they used recently.   :aok

Unless they got rifles they're going to be hurting after a pissed off group of somalis teaches them and future "clients" not to put up with them. They better have the armed security option onboard. Hopefully they got a sniper rifle too, since they're going to need it in the future. When somalis find out there's a good probability of guns onboard a ship they will be prepared to take potshots at the ship from a range. I'm sure they'll have enough capital to buy some nice launchers to give them enough range to stay out of the gun range. I wouldn't rule out a mortar either, since it's cheap; just put it on top of a simple gyroed platform and you might actually hit, it's not like they're in a hurry. Probably wouldn't even have to use it after couple of splashes which after the crew is wetting their pants and willing to drop their guns.

Eventually they will get to the Mk 15 Phalanx Close-In Weapons System that can be used in surface mode (PSUM) against water vessels. Vaporized pirates cant fire mortars and yes there will be unintended targets killed but thats what happens once escalation is underway.
If you like the Sick Puppy Custom Sound Pack the please consider contributing for future updates by sending a months dues to Hitech Creations for account "Chalenge." Every little bit helps.

Yes, the ship had all the options installed and on top of the deal they get the armed operatives for free for a set amount of time, which after these guys with rifles cost 2000 bucks a day. Pity the fool who fails to extend the contract.

And, as mentioned, that is cheaper than risking the cargo sometimes.

The sooner the better.

When did the first world Navies loose the ability to keep the sea lanes open?
I don't think Reagan would have let this happen, but I could be wrong.
