The new city
« on: December 07, 2009, 05:18:26 AM »
Is there a concentrated area somewhere in the midst of the 8k sprawl to bomb like the city centre. I did a raid the other day and didnt see it. Can anyone post a map or direct me to it?

Thanks Jimmy :salute

I guess the other squares are the strats.

The city centre looks allot bigger than the old city so more to bomb  :x

There is a big island in the middle, called "industrial center" on your clipboard map. This is the "city" area.

.

Each block of buildings is equvalent to an old city building, and can be destryoed with the same amount of ords.

So it's not really "more to bomb", it's just spread out on a bigger area.

Doesn't look like any gap between the blocs so I guess most damage is 6 x2000 pounders from Lancs evenly spread will do most damage. 4 up the right hand side going south to north and 2 on the return on the left north to south.

Is that about right do you think and is it now less surviveable as a mission?

In terms of bombing efficiency, you may have better results with smaller bombs. The blocks are so huge, that I think the increased bombing blast range of 2000 lbs bombs won't give you any advantage over 500 lbs bombs. If you drop a (3x) 500 lbs bomb between two blocks destroys both. And you can carry much more 500 lbs bombs than 2000 lbs.

And yes, I do think it's (on average) a much less survivable mission. Longer distances and a concentrated target give the enemy plenty of warning and not much doubt where you will go to. Altitude, speed and defensive firepower is getting mroe omportant for the bomber, the Lancaster has a hard time getting to the target now The most numerous plane I have seen near the new city in the last few days was the B-17, and there were quite alot of Arado 234's around too.

Also keep in mind that on small maps now all strategic targets are always in 163 range.

I wonder how many there are in total, anyone know?

IIRC 85...

Thanks to everyone  :salute

I will try a lancs with 2000lbers and Lancs with 500lbers when things are quiet and compare results. It maybe 2000lbers will spread to the next block.  Will post up on here my findings.

Also does anyone know what they largest amout of points anyone has landed yet?

In the old days we used to be able to do over a million on the old system from a Lancs city raid.
